1. Storj

Storj is a region-centric cloud storage platform. It is the same service as Baidu cloud Disk. The business process is that users rent space from Storj for a fee, and miners share their disks to get replacement coins. Storj’s mining software (GUI interface) does a good job and setup is relatively simple. Storj’s shared hard drive tokens are paid once a month. Storj’s mining, called Drive Farming, uses user-supplied hard Drive space for proof of storage (similar to IPFS).

Much like Storj, Sia is a decentralized cloud storage platform where files are sliced into small pieces and stored encrypted on a distributed network. Sia mines and shares its hard drives separately (unlike Storj). To participate in Sia’s hard drive sharing, you simply download a wallet and set it up.

Conditions for participating in the Sia disk sharing:
- For the mortgage of Siacoin, the minimum mortgage is 2000SC. The official suggestion is: the mortgage cost per T is 20,000-50,000 SC. (IPFS also requires collateral)
- The shared space must be at least 20 GB
- Static IP or use dynamic DNS (there are free dynamic DNS services available online such as www.noip.com)
- Open ports 9981 and 9982
- Sia has a contract period of 13 weeks, or 3 months to receive the benefits of shared drives (which is too long)
- Sia contract requires 7×24 hours 97% online, less than this time may cause the contract to fail, then your mortgage SC may be deducted.
