OS X, iOS and watchOS
OS X El Capitan
Craig introduced OS X El Capitan, the new Mac operating system, to Spotlight, Split View, window management and more. El in OS X El Capitan is a little L, not a big I, not a 1. El Capitan is a mountain in Yosemite National Park, according to El_Capitan Wiki.
Metal Is a core image processing technology that allows apps to access graphics processors more quickly. This will bring faster and more efficient image rendering performance to the entire system. Metal on the Mac has improved graphic fidelity and detail in games and many apps. IOS 9 also comes with a variety of built-in apps that take advantage of Metal technology, offering more responsive scrolling, smoother animations and better overall performance.
Better user experience, faster performance: OS X El Capitan. A beta version of OS X El Capitan for developers launched today, while a beta version for the public will be available this summer. The official OS X El Capitan will be available for free worldwide this fall.
IOS 9 makes the whole system smarter; It’s optimized for all the apps you use, and it’s more integrated with the iPad.
IOS 9 has rolled out Proactive Assistant and announced apis. Jennifer Bailey talks about Apple Pay. One is that it will be available in the UK from July. On the other hand, Apple Pay has enriched the Passbook App, giving Passbook a new name: Wallet.
The memo App for iOS 9 has been redesigned to be more powerful. You can add photos from the memo directly by enabling the camera or drawing a sketch with your finger. In short, Notes evolved into Evernote.
IOS 9 brings a new App, the News App. The News App delivers all the News you care about to your hand. News aggregator apps are coming up against some serious competition…
Craig Federighi explains some of the new things in iOS 9 for the iPad. IOS 9 brings new multitasking features and tools that let you happily multitask. Slide Over lets you open a second App without leaving your current App. With the Split View function, two apps can be opened and run in parallel on the same screen. The Picture in Picture feature reduces the size of a video, allowing you to watch a video show while replying to an email. Picture in Picture, Slide Over, and Split View will all have apis open to developers, and iOS 9 will have a number of new apis for developers.
The App Store now has more than 15,000 apps developed using Swift. Swift not only improves performance, but also has all kinds of new features to help you be more efficient. Swift is the underlying development language for iOS and OS X, and it opens up the possibilities for writing amazing apps. Here’s Swift breaking the biggest news of WWDC 2015: Swift will open source for iOS, OS X, and Linux later this year. In TIOBE’s June 2015 ranking of programming languages, Objective-C is 4.339% at # 5 and Swift is 1.440% at # 14. Objective-c is down 6.6% over the past year and Swift is up 1.44%. With this trend and the big open Source news, it looks like Swift is going to surpass Objective-C this year.
A beta version of iOS 9 is available today for developers, and a beta version for the public will be available in July. IOS 9 will be available this fall. The iOS update pack is only 1.3GB, which makes it easy to upgrade to 16GB devices, and I’d say the 4S is tough and upgradable.
It’s hard to imagine that the App Store has only been around for seven years. The App Store has grossed over $30 billion for developers. All apps have been downloaded over 100,000,000,000 times!
Before that, many apps on the Apple Watch had to run on the iPhone; With watchOS 2, they run entirely on the Apple Watch. Kevin introduced a new version of WatchKit that will give developers access to more hardware functionality. These include microphones and speakers, video, accelerometer, Taptic Engine, and Digital Crown. With HomeKit, you’ll be able to directly control lights and other devices in your home using apps on the Apple Watch.
A preview of watchOS 2 for developers is available today. WatchOS 2 will be available this fall as a free software update and is compatible with every Apple Watch.
Apple Music
Jimmy Iovine came on stage, and a lot of people thought he was Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft. I have to ridicule what WWDC is doing with this, and finally made a netease cloud music! All in all, this conference Swift Open Source is a big deal, I almost cried when I saw Open Source, haha! In addition, the developer account is available today across iOS, OS X and Watch OS. Buy it now!
