User experience writing is the domain of design work. Why do you say so? A good user experience document is just as important as a good UI design. So when I talk about design in general, I mean UI design, user experience, and copywriting. Think about what the key is in button design, especially if you can’t give effective action point information. For example, would you put “I’m not sure” on a button?
If that doesn’t make sense, here are a few reasons why you should write in user experience. It is also recommended that you hire a user experience copywriter, or try to draft your own and find a professional to fine-tune it.
Here are some of the reasons just mentioned:
1. Writers are, in a sense, designers
Just as designers use colors, shapes, and ICONS to create great design, writers can use word and sentence structures to create great copy
Let’s look at a few examples:
We found that the designer or developer thought of writing more succinctly, but the writer thought of writing more effectively, using language to help solve design problems.
2. Good user experience copywriting can maintain consistency
Copywriting in user experience design can not only improve the sense of design, but also maintain the consistency of experience in the product. For example, the user experience author can supplement the missing parts globally to ensure a more comprehensive user experience.
Just like designers, good writers create their own style guides for different products and stick to them
For example, you’ll never see a “Oops! Something’s wrong!” Appears in the same product as “Application has an unknown error.” Although the two texts have the same meaning, they are completely different in style. A good ux writer will never apply them to a product.
3. Writers are good at grammar and punctuation
User experience writing also needs to be detailed. In a good user experience writing, you will find few punctuation and spelling errors, and the quality of the text is the primary concern of the USER experience writer.
If you ask me whether language is important, I will say yes. Because users might be upset to see typos or inconsistencies in the app. It all comes down to trust. Once users start to notice low-quality text, they are likely to turn off.
4. Copywriting can force designers to think about problems they didn’t realize existed before
Usually, it is only when we understand something that we are able to explain it to others. The same goes for product design. When ux writers encounter a feature that is difficult to explain, they consult the feature designer. However, the reality is that some feature designers can’t explain it well. That’s when we should ask ourselves, right? Yes, it’s a sign that the design isn’t straightforward enough, so this is the time to go back to the drawing board, not torture the copy editors.
Therefore, you can even find user experience writing at this point, which can uncover usability issues and drive a better and simpler design
5. What else hasn’t been mentioned?
Ux design and UX copywriting are two very broad topics, so this article definitely doesn’t cover everything. Therefore, I welcome you to share your experience in copywriting.
