There are two kinds of designers:
More and more people are discovering: All websites look the same. Is web design meaningless?
This isn’t just a web design problem; in fact, it’s a problem in every area of design.
The four cities look too similar.
Nobody cares!
But we care, because we’re designers.
We care because we compare them side by side.
We care because we are inspired by other designs.
But in the end, most people don’t care. Only designers care if their website looks like someone else’s.
Most people only care if they can get what they need on the site.
Websites serve a purpose
Who cares if Amazon looks like Ebay? All we care about is getting things cheaper.
Who cares if Google looks like Bing? We only care if we can find the information we need.
Who cares if Uber looks like GrabTaxi? All we care about is getting a quick ride.
We are designers, not artists
The job of a designer is not just to color a website, change fonts and make it look beautiful, that’s the job of an artist.
What we need to do is find a balance between form and function within the client’s budget.
Our job is to solve website problems for clients.
For example, find more sales, make more sales, get more orders, reduce manual work, and so on.
The website is just a tool to solve these problems.
Chef knows more than just cooking
If you were a restaurant owner, who would you hire:
Chef A: Know how to cook the right dish and put it on the table
Chef B: He can control every aspect of the kitchen, from buying ingredients, negotiating prices, making sure the ingredients are fresh, preparing the ingredients, making sure all the chefs are in place, and finally, cooking.
Every age has its peak
There is always a period when everything looks similar to each other in a particular field, until the next breakthrough arrives.
What’s next in the age of minimalism?
If the design meets the requirements, then it is ok, there is no need to do better.
Can 53 (the company behind Smart Brushes Paper and Pencil) design better websites? Sure, they have the power, but why stop there?
Form and function
Don’t just focus on the form, but combine the two.
