The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is being held in Barcelona, Spain. Of course, I didn’t get to go to the conference and sit at home reading the reports.
MWC is the world’s most influential communication field exhibition, almost all important communication manufacturers, mobile phone companies will not be absent, each company released new products dazzling, but, the conference came from the most direct signal is: 5G.
5G, the fifth generation of mobile communication technology, most people probably just know that the network will be faster, and some people probably think that 4G is already fast enough, so will 5G be available so soon? Although 4G network speed is acceptable, but there is a high delay, which makes it impossible to achieve further breakthroughs in some specific application scenarios, such as unmanned driving technology, such as the Internet of Things, are the focus of the current industry.
It is foreseeable that in just one or two years, with the accelerated deployment of 5G, the whole industry will undergo huge and disruptive changes.
A new era of communication is coming.
Some friends say that 5G is so good, won’t it still be used to brush moments and watch videos? What is certain is that the new application scenarios will dramatically change the way we use the web. For example, the arrival of 5G May also open up new scenarios for game lovers, such as the ability to play big games that used to only run on PCS. This is inconceivable in the 4G era, as games run locally on phones with insufficient storage and rendering capabilities, and networks lag too much if they run in the cloud.
In the 5G era, players will only need a smartphone and a gamepad to play big games anytime. With powerful cloud processing capabilities, these large games can be downloaded without the need for high-definition graphics and low network latency. At the conference, OnePlus simulated the future of 5G cloud gaming for users at its booth. Believing 5G will revolutionize the gaming industry, OnePlus signed a global sponsorship deal with Fnatic, one of the world’s best-known esports teams.
5G is the field of communications, big companies are likely to win, mobile phone manufacturers are also eager to try. For the mobile phone brand One plus, it is both an opportunity and a challenge. Oneplus, which has always been committed to providing users with advanced technology and seamless experience without burden, has already laid out its 5G field in advance in 2016. In the first half of this year, OnePlus, in collaboration with EE, will be the first to launch 5G commercial phones powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chip in the UK. In the second quarter, OnePlus will launch the first 5G commercial phones in the Finnish market in collaboration with Finnish carrier Elisa. This is the progress of 5G for OnePlus in foreign countries. In China, on February 25, OnePlus officially announced a strategic cooperation with operator China Unicom to jointly promote the development of 5G.
Although China’s three major carriers have launched trials in more than a dozen cities, it is still unclear which cities will be the first to enter the 5G era. As a user, I always hope to be the first to experience 5G, but for a city whose network environment has been able to meet the needs of users, how motivated it is to deploy 5G first is still unknown.
And that’s certainly not all we’re looking forward to when 5G arrives.
In the MWC 2019 venue, OnePlus CEO Liu Zhuohu, Qualcomm President Cristiano R. Amon and EE CEO Marc Allera conducted a “OnePlus 5G: The roundtable forum with the theme of “Speed Shaping the Future” discussed the development of 5G. Liu zuohu believes that in the 5G era, the real world will be digitized to realize the connection between people and things and between things, and smartphones can better serve people’s needs. “When you need your phone, it responds quickly and does what you want, and when you don’t need it for a while, it waits quietly and does not even make you feel its presence, truly realizing a smart life without burden.”
The year 2019 will be the first year that 5G will be commercially available. On the one hand, we will see more vendors releasing 5G phones, such as young explorers like OnePlus. On the other hand, the industry is in the stage of hardware upgrade, and the application scenarios are still relatively lagging behind. I believe that there are still unexpected application scenarios that have not been inspired. Oneplus is also thinking about how to give users a better 5G experience in the future. Liu zuohu believes that the developer community will be an essential driving force for the future development and maturity of 5G. To this end, OnePlus, through the integration of industry resources and cooperation with EE, launched the “5G Apps of Tomorrow” mobile App development challenge to global developers to support developers with breakthrough ideas and promote the development of 5G application scenarios.
Why is OnePlus so confident about 5G? On the one hand, it has something to do with the company’s product strategy. Since its establishment, OnePlus has only done flagship products, and its products are committed to providing users with light and smooth experience. On the other hand, to meet the needs of professional users in the community, users need better technology in advance. What is more important is that in the past five years of overseas market development, OnePlus has gained the support of many powerful business partners and formed a good cooperative relationship with qualcomm, EE, T-Mobile and other giants.
The future is here, just not evenly distributed. Such unevenness brings new business opportunities. Rather than compete for the saturated mobile market in 4G, it is surely a more effective strategy to prepare for 5G in the commercial market.
