May all developers who strive to improve themselves find their best way to survive outside of code.

preface

I recently read a book that inspired me so much that I would like to share a few things with you programmers, and I strongly recommend that you read it.

The book is called Soft Skills: Surviving Beyond Code, and the title of this chapter is taken from that book.

The book was written by a programmer, but not a single line of code. But it’s one of the best books I’ve read about programmers since I’ve been in the industry, because it talks about what it’s like to be a software worker outside of code.

In the book, the author answers the following questions based on his own experience:

  1. How to bid farewell to the helpless and painful code farming life?
  2. How to study effectively?
  3. How to build a personal brand?
  4. How to accumulate contacts to stand out?
  5. How to learn financial management to achieve financial freedom?
  6. How to keep fit and healthy?

The book is divided into just seven chapters, each focusing on a different aspect of a software developer’s life. If anything, it is about the career, mind, body and spirit of the software developer.

This article is mainly a summary of the book, but hopefully it can be used as a primer to get readers interested in the book after reading it, or hopefully make them a little more positive about what they need to do outside of code.

conclusion

After reading this book, you will not immediately acquire some skills, gain some experience, and go to the “peak of life”. But it gives you a little bit more clarity about what you need to do outside of the code.

This book gives me the feeling that I have found a friend, because I have been keeping the habit of fitness, study and reading since I entered the software industry. Some thoughts and concepts of the author happen to coincide with me, and I have been slowly implementing my own plan, although sometimes it is not understood by others and is regarded as different from ordinary people. This book really gave me more energy.

I believe that you are reading this article, you are also a person full of hope and vision for your future (both in work and life), I hope this book can help you.

May all developers who strive to improve themselves find their best way to survive outside of code.

If this article is helpful to you, I hope you can give a thumbs up. This is the biggest motivation for me.
