Font is not simply a stack of strokes, it is more about putting our own emotions into it.

In the aspect of font design, I suggest you to copy a good work with a pen on paper, which is easier to understand the structure of font, stroke characteristics and some details than simply looking at them. Of course it would be nice to add some understanding to your ideas.
