Before we introduce how to set this up, we should understand two concepts: “mount” and “file system cache”. Mount means that the files on the system device can be accessed. Tuxera NTFS for Mac mount means that the software can fully read and write the NTFS disk connected to the Mac. The purpose of file system caching is to reduce repeated read and write operations on disks and improve software performance.

Sometimes, however, we need to use software to read data in the database. To avoid conflicts between cached data and database data, we need to disable file system caching on specific mounted volumes.

Let’s take a look at how to disable file system caching on a specific mounted volume.

First, turn on preferences

Right-click the Tuxera NTFS for Mac icon at the top of the Mac and choose Preferences from the drop-down list to access the Settings screen.

2. Set a volume

After enabling Tuxera NTFS for Mac preferences, click Volume to enter the Volume setting page. As shown in Figure 2, if none of the Settings can be operated, click the “lock” icon in the lower left corner and verify the Apple ID account and password in the popup window to unlock the Settings.

After unlocking the Settings, select the volumes to be disabled from the Volumes Mounted by Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera drop-down list.

In the area shown in Figure 4, we simply check “Disable file system buffering”. In addition to this setting, we can also “disable file name normalization”, which was set to use ntFS-3G and create user designs with international character files and directories before January 1, 2009. This setting is not used much. And disable Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera on the mounted volume.

To summarize, when we need Tuxera NTFS for Mac to read information from a database, we need to disable file system caching on certain mounted volumes to avoid conflicts between cached data and library data. First, open the software preferences. After unlocking the preference Settings, select a specific volume from the Volumes Mounted by Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera drop-down list on the Volumes page, and select Disable file system buffering in the Settings area. In addition to disabling file system caching, we can also disable Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera in this particular mounted volume.
