It’s not all that real

When one side ends, it all seems less real. A few minutes ago, I was in a hurry to answer the call, but as the phone hung up, everything became quiet again, so quiet that I felt even my head had become a little dull.

The feeling is familiar. Many years ago the college entrance examination ended that night, torrential rain, back home, a person, in front of the pile into a mountain of problem sets and papers, said nothing. It was all over, but there was no expected rapture. Calm, even a little depressed.

Wait and pack up again

But the immediate interview is not over, the real challenge may just come, behind there are two, three, N side waiting for me. The opening battle went a little too well, and it could be a tough one.

Perhaps, by putting aside the flukes and preparing humbly, luck will favor you.

After the festival, I received a phone call from Baidu, simple and clear, and agreed on the time of telephone interview.

After the first phone interview, the wait was much easier. Maybe it was because of what the young interviewer said about me in my first phone interview that I felt a little more confident.

Classes, books, tech blogs, the rhythm of life is still monotonous.

In a blink of an eye, the appointed day arrived.

An untouchable battle

Similarly, it’s not surprising that after a few words of identification, the interviewer gets straight to the point.

From the sound of his voice, the interviewer was a little older, and his tone was more calm and serious than before.

“Why should HTML be separated from CSS? Why not use inline styles?”

“What is the box model of CSS? Just a general introduction.”

“What’s the difference between IE6’s box model and the standard box model?”

“How to achieve two column adaptive, what are the methods?”

“What is CSS Spirit? What does it do?”

“What are some common compatibility issues with CSS? How do you solve it?”

.

Sure enough, it was a tough fight, the whole process asked almost all CSS issues, JS almost rarely mentioned.

In my opinion at that time, “front-end engineer” focused on JS and “refactoring engineer” focused on CSS, so I put most of my energy into preparing JS problems.

Is it possible that the first question is JS, while the second one focuses on CSS?

There wasn’t much time to think about it. The pace of the interview was noticeably faster, and when there were questions that stuck, the interviewer didn’t give much time to think, and some of the questions that really couldn’t be answered, they just had to skip.

A second time?

A road down, more than an hour passed. Calm, nervous, calm, heart experienced such three stages of transition.

Interviewer: “Anything you want to add.”

Me: “Not at the moment, thanks.”

When the last question was asked, I was prepared for the worst. Inexplicable inner restlessness, want to end this call earlier.

I felt my hands shaking nervously. The other end of the phone also quiet for a while, should be recording something.

It took about ten seconds, but it felt like a century.

The interviewer’s voice came back into the phone again, the same serious tone. Unconsciously, I clenched my fist.

Interviewer: “this interview almost to here, face quite long time, the corresponding knowledge point almost also asked.”

A short pause, feeling that the phone has not finished. I can barely stand on my feet.

Interviewer: “This one is over, you probably when have time to come over for a second interview?”

Are you still a student?

“Once it is too much”, this sentence instantly in my mind constantly circling.

I passed this interview. On one side.

One side??

Me: “Hello, I have one thing to confirm, today’s interview is one or two? I passed a round of phone interviews last week.”

The interviewer froze: “Huh? Already?”

Me: “Yes, Mid-Autumn day.”

Interviewer: “Just a moment, LET me check.”

Pass with a mystery

Interviewer: “Sorry to have kept you waiting. I checked the interview notes, and we did meet before. You know what? This is a second interview. The third is the manager’s interview. When would it be convenient for you to come over and have a face-to-face interview?”

Me: “Could it be the weekend of next week? There’s school for two weeks.”

Interviewer: “Classes? . Are you still a student? What date is this year?”

I: “yes, haven’t graduated, this year’s big four.”

Interviewer: “Well… I see. I’ll arrange it. There will be emails and text messages.

Me: “Yes, thank you very much.”

Afterword.

On the same day, I received an email from Baidu in Shanghai, confirming the time of the three interviews, as well as the matters needing attention in business travel reimbursement.

Never been on a train, never been outside Guangdong province. Thought of a person to go to a life unfamiliar Shanghai interview, the heart some look forward to, and some uneasy.

But it didn’t happen.

I heard that it snowed recently in Shanghai. The bund should be very beautiful.

Do not know falling snow, there is no answer to the riddle.
