1 Import Cost
During development, you may often find yourself adding dependencies to your project. Although modular development has become a key part of software development today, it’s best to make sure you’re careful with your input. JavaScript and TypeScript Import Cost plug-ins allow you to be aware of all dependencies in real time.
When you add a dependency inline to the code, it shows the size. It is a lightweight plug-in that provides predictability and facilitates effective dependency management. The plug-in documentation also lists the various import syntax that allows the plug-in to show us the size of dependencies.
Here’s an article detailing the original author’s motivation for developing the plug-in.
2 File Utils
Although the core features of Visual Studio Code work well for encoding files, you may feel the need to enhance Visual Studio Code’s ability to manage multiple files in projects and dependencies. The File Utils extension lets you perform File operations from the command palette.
You can bring up the command panel and select a file to perform simple file operations on it. In addition to basic folder-related operations, you can copy, move, delete, and rename files. It is a useful plug-in that allows you to manage your project files without leaving the scope of Visual Studio Code.
3 Project Manager
The File Utils extension lets you perform simple File operations, while the Project Manager plug-in lets you further manage multiple projects. First, it adds a new sidebar to support handling multiple projects. Second, the extension can also help you manage Git, SVN, or Mercurial repositories. It allows us to further manage the remote repository.
In addition to guI-based functionality, this extension adds commands for use with projects. You can tweak the Settings to further customize its functionality to your liking.
With advanced features such as remote repository management and interactive commands, the Project Manager extension provides several libraries in your tools, which can extend your development cycle.
4 SVG Viewer
SVG refers to scalable vector graphics, and SVG files are text files that store network vector images. If you open SVG files in a text editor, the text content of those files will normally be displayed. If you are editing these files directly, you may want to see how Visual Studio Code renders them.
The SVG Viewer plug-in allows you to visualize SVG files, saving you time when viewing work with other applications. Essentially, it saves you time when you do quick edits to SVG files.
5 Code Spell Checker
A large number of exceptions encountered by developers can often be resolved by correcting spelling errors in variable, function, and package names. In addition, you may make spelling mistakes when writing comments, notes, or documents. This package helps highlight errors in your files. It helps you check spelling in a variety of popular programming languages. You can also adjust the Settings so that code Spell Checker is used with specific file types.
Although it supports English at installation, the additional dictionary is available for eight languages and medical terms. All in all, it adds a small but powerful addition to your excellent Visual Studio Code extension library.
6 Remote SSH
Due to the distributed nature of development, you may need to log in to a remote server to update and test your code. Although they can be easily managed through third-party SSH clients, there is a Visual Studio Code extension that allows you to work remotely on the server without leaving the application entirely.
Microsoft’s remote-SSH plug-in lets you connect to a Remote development environment without having to include any code on your local system at all. It also allows you to swap between multiple remote environments, allowing you to perform multiple tasks across multiple remote systems. In addition, the plug-in also supports connecting to remote systems based on Linux, Windows or macOS. The importance of developing on remote servers these days makes the “Remote SSH plug-in” an essential extension to Visual Studio Code.
7 Trailing Whitespace Visualizer
Good programming practice is to make sure your code does not contain any trailing Spaces. Trailing whitespace is made up of any (essentially invisible) Spaces or tabs after the last non-whitespace character in any line of code preceding the newline character. The Trailing Whitespace Visualizer plug-in highlights all such Trailing Whitespace in the code.
Trailing whitespace is a completely unnecessary addition to your code, and it increases the size of your file, so it’s a good idea to remove them. This plugin can highlight them not only in your code, but also when you use code written by other team members.
8 Debugger for Chrome
When you’re using front-end JavaScript code, a common way to test that your code is correct is on the browser. Chrome Dev Tools provides a practical way to debug JavaScript from the console. The Debugger for Chrome plugin integrates Visual Studio Code into Chrome or chromium-based browsers that support the Chrome Development Tools protocol.
There are many debugging features that allow you to identify errors in your code without leaving the IDE. In short, the Chrome debugger extension can save time during the usual debugging process.
9 ESLint
ESLint is a static JavaScript code parser. It scans your code and finds syntax errors and inefficient programming practices. The ESlint Visual Studio extension integrates ESlint with the Visual Studio Code IDE to analyze JavaScript Code on demand. However, it requires that ESLint be installed either locally or on your global system.
10 Live Server
Visual Studio Code’s Live Server extension lets you run a local development Server to test your Code. It has real-time reload capability for static and dynamic web pages.
