Migrating an entire application to a modern cloud architecture can be difficult and often requires additional effort on the part of the developer. However, when Docker EE is used, developers can enjoy the portability, security and efficiency brought by Docker throughout the migration process, and do not need to spend extra effort to modify the code.

Containerizing the entire application is a good start for modernizing the application architecture. In most cases, developers can do this without changing the code. From this point on, developers can break the application into smaller components so that deployment updates, introduction of new components, and extension management can be easily implemented as the process progresses.



This new video series covers a demonstration case of modernizing a Java application. It describes the entire process of transforming a multi-tier Java application into a distributed application that spans multiple containers. Docker provides a platform for all components to plug in and manage.

This video series does not cover a complete refactoring of microservices. Switching to a full microservice approach is not suitable for all applications, and a complete rewrite of an application can take years of effort to pay off. This video series takes a feature-driven approach. I chose to update key features to fix performance issues, add new features, and support application updates. Gradually evolve to fully modern applications with quick advantages and easier transitions.

In the first video of the series, I first gave a rough introduction to the whole series of videos, and introduced the process of using Docker for modernization, because this part involves the development process. In this video, we’ll talk about Docker and how to migrate applications to containers, and I’ll give you some summaries of the upcoming videos and code.
