Be a programmer on the road can also record some interesting scenery, it can make you extraordinary
A good writing platform can accelerate our growth
“I see a long way to go, I will search high and low”. I have been writing for nearly five years. In these five years, THERE were excitement and confusion, but fortunately, I never gave up.
In early April 2014, I wrote my first real technology blog on ITeye, an early IT technology forum; Not really a first, as I’ve written three blog notes in the last four years (less than one a year, don’t laugh); Since then, I’ve made a resolution to write at least once a week until I can make an impact on ITeye, a tech forum.
By August 2015, I had written 60 ITeye blogs (calculator out, less than four a month) with more than 70,000 views; At this stage, ITeye held a “prize reading” activity every month (try to read an electronic version of a chapter and write a book note blog). According to statistics, I won the prize 5 times and received 5 paper books as gifts.
The 70,000-plus page views are nothing to worry about, and the total price of the five books is just over $200; But it was this insignificant achievement that gave me the confidence to write. It didn’t matter whether I made an impact or not. What mattered was that I started writing consistently.
ITeye, a technology forum, has a low threshold for writers. As long as you are willing to write, you have a chance to get featured, and the featured blog can get thousands or even tens of thousands of views. Page views for we-media authors, is undoubtedly money; But for simple tech sharers, page views just mean we help more people; When readers comment, “Thank you for sharing, for solving a technical problem that’s been bothering me for a week,” wow, it feels good to be recognized. It feels like a sip of milk tea.
Over time, ITeye declined, much like Yahoo did. Behind them, hidden an irresistible force, called the progress of science and technology.
Despite its demise, ITeye still hosts a number of high-quality technical blogs, such as the Java NIO tutorial series and the Java Concurrent Tutorial series (Oracle official resources). These are the classics of the classics and should be read by any Java programmer. This writing platform suitable for xiaobai has also cultivated many famous great god figures, such as Kaitao, the core technology of website architecture with 100 million traffic, who is often recommended by Shi Lei of our Qingmiao Technology studio.
After building my writing confidence on ITeye, I transferred to CSDN (Chinese Software Developer Network) in September 2015. Compared with ITeye, CSDN is a larger Chinese IT technology community, and there are impressive talents coming out of IT, such as Xiaohui An of Program Vision, Lin Guo, author of the first Line of Android Code, And Qiming Lu, technical director of IQiyi, etc.
Why write on CSDN? The answer, of course, is — in order to be the best version of yourself, not better.
As of December 2018, I have published 361 posts on CSDN with over 1.49 million views and currently rank 1314 — take a screenshot to show my wife, because that’s a pretty good number. The result compared with the previous I listed those Daniel, is dwarfed (6.38 million + blog traffic, xiao-hui an Guo Lin blog traffic has 9.27 million +), but it is these “small”, made a “mediocrity” I – I am no longer a unknown programmer, I is an expert in CSDN blog, I am the author (but not yet published) of The Road to Advanced Web Full-Stack Development.
A recent college graduate asked me, “What would give me the most credit in my job search?” “, my answer was simple: “Degree, award, expert blogger, published book”. I remember that some time ago, when I wanted to change my job, many headhunters asked me for my blog address, and one of them said, “Seeing your ranking on CSDN blog, YOU should be able to join Alibaba.” Well, my heart is excited, excited, content.
If you’re a programmer who wants to get into writing, CSDN, Blogland, Nuggets, and Simple Books are all great writing platforms.
Writing doesn’t happen overnight
After choosing a writing platform, you are ready to try your hand at it and make an impact. It’s like when I started writing on ITeye. You know, I’ve been writing on ITeye for over a year, and all I’ve got is five complimentary books and 70,000 + views. If anything, it’s the belief that a single spark can start a fire.
I would say that the path of writing is lonely and needs time to settle; Not everyone can be like Mimone, just start out, an article read more than 100,000 +; But one thing is for sure, as long as you keep writing, someone will come to you, sign contracts and publish books.
Back in September 2015, I was ready to challenge myself at CSDN. I told my wife about this idea. To my surprise, she advised me to give up my dream of writing, because my score was too insignificant. She said THAT I had no talent or method for writing, let alone a bloodthirsty thirst for writing.
I thought too many times to give up! How easy to give up ah, casually can find a lot of reasons, today I am puzzling headache, today I carry a shovel also did not dig out any writing inspiration, today the boss and with the excuse of “able to do much work” cheat me to work overtime.
But I know, I can’t give up, I love writing in my bones, junior high school to write more than half of the martial arts romance novels, has been my sister sealed in her safe; Every New Year together time, will take out to read two lines to make fun of my childish year. But to tell you the truth, I didn’t feel embarrassed at all. Instead, I felt very happy. No matter how bad the writing is, it is also my work!
I’ve been asked (by some, even myself), “Can you keep writing for so many years with so little success?” I always say with confidence, “Yes, why not? I want to write, write and my generation of young people turned into aunt uncle dancing in the square flying kites, I want to write!”
Because I knew that writing would be a long, short journey, and I wasn’t in too much of a rush — a little bit of a rush. I wanted to write higher quality content with a story.
Become the best in your field
As we all know, the third uncle of the Southern School is good at writing grave robbing novels, Lu Xun is good at writing critical realism short stories, jin Yong is good at writing martial arts novels, they are masters in their respective fields. So, how can a small role like me find what I’m good at and become the best in it?
Pretend to ask yourself, “What am I familiar with? What do I like? What makes me different?”
For example, I am familiar with Python programming and Web full-stack development; I like to read wang (mean sense of humor, the masochistic funny), like/love to write prose masters (all) the text on the junior high school, high school Chinese textbook, essays (Lao she’s essays, hu shi’s essays), short stories, lu xun’s scream), like history books (in those days the bright moon “Ming dynasty those things”).
What makes me different? Here’s a hint from many readers:
Your article is really great and interesting. I like it very much. I hope I can update my Python basics as much as possible
See, I left a few key points in the reader’s impression: the article was interesting and the person was very sincere. Based on this, I wrote a note to myself: “A programmer who can do more than code; I will write funny words for you who don t like to be serious. In other words, I can make boring technical articles interesting, and I can write about the life of a programmer honestly and positively — that’s my area of expertise.
When we have determined what we are good at, the only thing we have to do is to dig deep and keep digging deep. One day, we will become the best in that field.
Do you have your own material library?
When it comes to writing, I suspect everyone has a problem of being unable to write, perhaps because there is nothing to write about, perhaps because there is nothing to write about, perhaps because there is nothing to write about, perhaps because there is nothing to say to the reader. This happens to every writer. Even Haruki Murakami, the frontrunner for the Nobel Prize in Literature, admits in Hear the Wind Sing: “Writing is extremely painful for me. Sometimes I can write for a whole month without a line, and sometimes I can write for three days and nights, and at the end it’s all wrong.”
When we read some good articles with particularly high page views, there is always a wonderful feeling: the author is so powerful, how to know everything, just like Zhuge Kongming knows astronomy and geography. But this may be an illusion — these authors may just be pulling material out of the library and tweaking it.
So, how do you build a library?
When we read, be sure to jot down the best sentences in the book and the good ideas that come to us. There are a variety of recording tools, a pen a notebook; Youdao Cloud Note can also be computer terminal or mobile terminal; Even wechat collection.
When we communicate with others, we must summarize the process of conversation, and confirm the core values to the other party in the form of words. It’s not just about building a library, it’s about impressing people.
And then, when we time to spare down, such as the brush you are destroyed through entertainment news (what feather any drugs, small and modest) moves, just remind yourself that the finishing note – when collecting just didn’t choose articles to read it again, the thought those immature idea again, put the golden sentences to recite it again.
When we have our own library of material, the pain of writing articles is much less. Accordingly, we are more likely to succeed in writing, don’t you think?
