This graph shows how large a project’s REPO is, measured by the number of lines of code (the image is too large, so it is recommended to save and view it on your computer later).
At the top is a simple iPhone application with less than 10W lines of code, followed by UNIX 1.0 and Win32
Google’s code base is far more than any other project, at 2 billion lines.
Google is not the largest Git Repo, however, because it uses its own version management tool that allows its 62,000 employees (one-third of whom are programmers) to work more efficiently.
The largest Git Repo is Microsoft Windows:
- There are 350W files
- The size is 300 GB
Some more familiar projects have lines of code:
- Chrome: 5M
- World of Warcraft (server): 6M
- Firefox: 9M
- Android: 11M
- Windows XP: 39M
- Office 2013: 44M
- Facebook: 61M
