Spending on cloud infrastructure services rose 35% to $41.8 billion in the first quarter of 2021. The trend toward cloud services for data analytics and machine learning, data center consolidation, application migration, cloud native development, and service delivery continues to keep pace.
Overall, customers spent more than $40bn in the first quarter for the first time, with total spending up almost $11bn from the first quarter of 2020 and almost $2bn from the fourth quarter of 2020, according to Canalys.
The acceleration of digital transformation over the past 12 months has increased demand for these services as organizations adapt to new working practices, customer engagement, business processes and supply chain dynamics. This, coupled with a rebound in the economy, government stimulus spending, the launch of a massive COVID-19 vaccination programme and subsequent relaxation of restrictions, has boosted customer confidence.
At the same time, customers are asking cloud service providers to provide more advanced solutions to meet the needs of data security and customization services. As customers strive to adapt to the new specifications, the advantages of public cloud are amplified, relying on cloud infrastructure products such as cloud servers, cloud virtual hosts and cloud databases to build industry solutions.
