In October 2021, we released the last unit of the “Basics of Building Android Apps with Kotlin” course, a free self-taught programming course dedicated to helping people with no programming experience develop and build Android apps. In this course, students will learn the basics of programming and the basics of the Kotlin programming language.

In response to feedback from educators and students, we have been iterating on course materials, adding new modules to make it easier for you to apply your knowledge to new projects and prepare you for more advanced learning.

Solid foundation

With these updates, the “Basics of Building Android Applications with Kotlin” course now covers the key topics covered in the “Basics of Android Kotlin” course, so we are canceling the “Basics of Android Kotlin” course. We encourage students who have some basic knowledge to skip the familiar parts and go straight to the test. Focusing on the basics can help a few middle and advanced students who have missed the key concepts benefit from the project. This also allows our team to ensure that the courses always present the latest learning content. In addition to course content, we will continue to provide Codelab, code samples, documentation, and video content to help students on a variety of bases.

Future plans

Our team is working hard on the next course, which will help developers learn how to write Android apps using Jetpack Compose. We look forward to teaching Android a modern toolkit for building native interfaces, as it simplifies and speeds up Android interface development.

The current task

By studying the current course, you can learn the basics of application development, which is a starting point for exploring your existing Jetpack Compose study plan, or moving on to the upcoming Android Basics and Compose course. As you continue to explore the Android development landscape, you’ll build a good foundation for building applications. We plan to have both versions of Android’s basics coexist, and you can choose to learn to build Android applications using either interface toolkit.

Maybe you’ve never built an app before and want to learn how to build an app, or maybe you just want to review some of our latest best practices, you’re welcome to learn more about the basics of Building Android Apps with Kotlin. You are also welcome to continue to follow the “Android Developer “wechat official account to learn more about the latest content.
