On June 25, 2018, the Linux Foundation, a non-profit open source organization that brings together the world’s top developers, announced that Tencent has become the foundation’s latest platinum member.

In the field of open source, Tencent’s contribution is growing and it is becoming an active member of the community. In terms of interaction with community institutions, Tencent has linked Linux resources extensively, used OpenDaylight SDN controller as one of the first enterprises, and established China Open SDN (COS) Committee as one of the founders. In terms of project support, Tencent has sponsored dozens of GitHub open source projects and is a member of cloud Native Computing Foundation, Hyperledger, LF Networking and Open Web Foundation. As the chief founding member of LF Deep Learning Foundation, Tencent plans to contribute to Angel Project, its AI open source project, to help the fund promote artificial intelligence technology iteration.

It is reported that Liu Xin, general manager of Tencent mobile Internet business group, will join the Board of Directors of Linux Fund as an open source consultant of Tencent and exercise relevant rights and interests on behalf of enterprises. At the same time, as a platinum member, Tencent can make full use of the foundation’s expertise in open source management, laws and regulations, event execution, marketing and other fields to further provide resources and support to the open source community.

Contributing TARS, Tencent’s open source high-performance RPC development framework, and TSeer, its lightweight name service solution, to the Linux Foundation is an important step for Tencent to deepen into the open source community. After that, we also plan to share Tencent’s AI open source project Angel with LF Deep Learning Foundation. We hope that by collaborating with Linux, Tencent can build a friendly and vibrant open source ecosystem.”
