Google announced the launch of its privacy computing core service

The Private Compute Core was announced at the same time Android 12 was announced at Google’S I/O Developer conference in May. This is an open source initiative that provides a sandbox-like secure environment that insulates services such as smart replies, live playback, and subtitles from the rest of the operating system and application. The goal is to keep data private on users’ own devices and leverage the cloud in ways that protect privacy. Now, Google has taken this initiative one step further with Private Compute Services.

Suzanne Frey, vp of security and privacy products at Android & Play, said in a blog post on September 9 that the new suite will “provide a bridge between Private Compute Core and the cloud to protect privacy.”

Google notes that many Android features use machine learning to update models to provide a better experience for users. The privacy Computing Core service will ensure that these updates are made via private paths, and privacy computing core functions such as smart replies and live captions will not go directly to the web. This will be achieved by leveraging dedicated open source apis that protect privacy by removing personally identifiable information (PII) and using techniques such as federated learning, federated analysis, and private information retrieval.

Low code implementation mainstream: 75% of IT leaders say this is a must-see trend

According to Mendix’s latest research on low code adoption by IT leaders and developers over the past 18 months, the global pandemic has dramatically accelerated interest in and use of low code in the enterprise, a technology trend that predated the outbreak. The results show that 77 percent of businesses in six countries have adopted low code, and 75 percent of IT leaders say this is a trend they cannot afford to miss.

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the world of digital commerce, requiring companies to move their activities online as they cope with rapidly changing demand. While these pressures seem to indicate that IT people are worried about the digital revolution, Mendix’s report, The State of Low Code 2021: Review, The Future, shows that 58 percent of developers are actually excited about acceleration, and 45 percent of them are in dire need of faster, more efficient development.

Industries are also realizing that past software development can’t keep up with the growing demand.

The survey results illustrate this trend:

  • Nearly six in 10 (57%) IT professionals say the number of employees needed for software development is increasing.

  • 76% said demand for developers has reached insane levels.

  • Meanwhile, the cost of software development is rising (61%).

  • Two-thirds of software projects are late.

  • Despite relentless efforts, the backlog is growing, at 62% of the organization.
