With the epidemic improving, the peak job-hunting season has quietly arrived. Some friends may want to work in a foreign company when they are looking for a job, but many of them know nothing about foreign companies. So this article will give you popular science about some of my actual feelings in foreign companies, I hope to give some help to the friends looking for work.

On TV or in the movies, a foreign company is seen as a very respectable job, where everyone wears a suit and ties, works in a luxurious office, chats with foreign colleagues and, most importantly, is paid very well.

I used to have such an impression of foreign companies, so when I was young, I looked forward to foreign companies very much. But it was not until I finally entered a foreign company that I realized that what is on TV is not necessarily true…

Here I would like to give you a detailed introduction of my experience in the foreign company.

As some secrets are involved, the pictures in this paper are not taken by me on the spot, but those close to our company that I found on the Internet.

The work environment

First, let’s talk about the working environment in foreign companies. The office environment of the foreign enterprise in TV is very luxurious, but in fact most of the foreign enterprise’s office is just like that, with the domestic enterprise does not have much difference. But after all, it is a foreign company. There will be many English elements in the office, such as chicken soup on the wall, notices, signs and so on. Most of them are in English or both.

Many foreigners like to keep fit, so some foreign companies will have a gym inside, or they will give employees a gym card outside. But unfortunately, we don’t have anything.

For computers, we set it to English only. Our company gave each employee a laptop with a large monitor so that we could write bugs. Our text files are almost entirely in English, such as code comments, minutes of meetings, notices, emails, etc. Communication with foreign colleagues is definitely in English, including oral communication and email communication, but communication with Chinese colleagues is basically in Chinese, not like the TV everyone speaks English.

Foreigners like to drink coffee, so the company provides unlimited coffee in the tea room, not only instant coffee, but also freshly ground coffee. Of course, in order to take care of the people, there will be a variety of tea. In addition, some foreign companies will prepare a variety of snacks or drinks for you, but we still have nothing.

Humanized features

Whether you have ever worked in a foreign company or not, you have more or less heard that foreign companies are more human. So how to reflect it? The first is the flexible working system, many foreign companies do not require clocking, the commuting time is relatively free. If you come late, you have to leave late. It’s ok to work eight hours a day. But our company is not like this, but a month as long as the full corresponding hours can be. For example, if there are 22 working days in a month, you only need to work 176 hours. This means that if you leave early one day, you can simply stay late the next and make up the time. It’s a really cool system that gives people a lot of freedom.

Also, annual leave is very generous. I get 10 days as soon as I join the company, and it increases over time. In domestic companies, it is good to have 3 days annual leave at the beginning, and many companies do not even have the concept of annual leave.

The second is that foreign companies are very easy to ask for leave. In domestic company, with respect to the first two companies that my place has worked for instance, ask for leave should inform the reason that the leader asks for leave every time, can approve leave to see the mood of the leader even. Some even please more than 2 days to interview with the manager to approve the possibility of leave. Don’t ask me how I know. I’ve been there. This is a bit of a bumper, because sometimes it’s too personal to ask for a day off, and having to tell you why is totally overbearing.

But in foreign companies, it is quite easy to ask for leave. You might just need a wechat. And you don’t have to give any reason. It’s perfectly OK to just say I can’t come in because SOMETHING has come up, or I want to take the day off tomorrow. Moreover, the leader usually will not make things difficult for you, as long as it does not affect the project, the basic will agree.

There are holidays, the company is in strict accordance with national laws and regulations. But some foreign companies are also more generous, will give you more days, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Spring Festival. If you work overtime during statutory holidays, you will be paid overtime in strict accordance with the labor law.

Another thing that you have more or less heard about is that foreign companies rarely work overtime. As a programmer, how can I not work overtime? Many domestic companies are 996, write the wrong code will be dragged to heaven, and I don’t have to work overtime? But the truth is, I rarely work overtime, which is why I have time to sit here and chat with everyone. Even when working overtime, the office is almost empty after 19:30. This is the beginning of overtime work in many companies in China…

Welfare treatment

It is often said that the benefits of foreign companies are very good, and this is true, but only a few years ago. A few years ago, the welfare of foreign enterprises in the same industry is indeed the top level, into the foreign enterprise means a high salary. However, times have changed, and now the treatment of foreign enterprises is still maintained at the same level, but the treatment of other enterprises is constantly improving, so in comparison, the treatment of foreign enterprises no longer has an advantage, and even has been at a disadvantage.

Take our company as an example, our company’s welfare has been good in the past few years, the salary to the first level of the industry, every year there are two salary adjustment opportunities, and the range is not small. And then there are gift cards for holidays and things like that. There’s a few extra expenses and things like that. In short, our company was “other people’s company.” But since then, salaries have declined year after year, holiday fees have been eliminated, gift cards and gifts are still, but not many, and other benefits are gone. Anyway, the treatment is not what it used to be.

So, want to blunt foreign “high salary” to friends, be careful!

The milk of human kindness

When it comes to human touch, it may vary from company to company. Before recording this video, I asked one of my friends who used to work in a foreign company. Their company is very human and often has various activities, not only dinner, but also family activities, watching the World Cup and other activities. But he also said that his department would be more humane, while others might not be.

However, our company is basically impersonal. When I first joined the company, the leader didn’t even introduce me to the people in my group. He, he, he and she were our group. Then he left me alone. At the same time, we talk about work at work and hardly anything about our lives.

Also, we don’t do anything after work, so we just go back to our homes and find our mothers. The two companies I worked for in front of me had some activities after work from time to time, such as dinner together, KTV together, hiking together, etc.

Therefore, I feel that our company is impersonal and there is no team cohesion. Everyone just gets together for work, and there is no other interaction between us except work.

summary

OK, this is my three years in a foreign company some experience, to some friends want to go to foreign companies some reference. Because I have only worked in one foreign company, there will be various differences between enterprises. What I have introduced is more about our company, but not necessarily about other foreign companies. Anyway, I hope my video can play a certain reference role and give you a comparison when choosing offer.
