There were many times during my byte internship when I wanted to write something down, but the daily repetitive work didn’t seem worth recording. Just create a new memo and start thinking about taking notes.

🏢

Byte’s office space is scattered around the world, and all the office space is rented. Last year, byte bought an office building for his company in Beijing.

The author’s working area is located in Shanghai science and technology oasis park, a 3 – storey large flat floor, still spacious. To specific holidays, the company will decorate some ornaments, set off the festive atmosphere.

Morning generally around 10 o ‘clock to the company, make a cup of tea, medlar, chrysanthemum, lemon, change patterns, and then take a small bread as breakfast.

While you’re eating bread, turn on your computer, do a quick scan of the blogs and news feeds you subscribe to, and spend some time perusing if there’s a topic that interests you.

Then make a quick TODO List, deal with some emails and texts from your book, and start your day.

The office environment and site of the company is relaxed and free, and there is no compulsory staff to stay at their desks during working hours. Make a cup of coffee, find a sunny booth, or a quiet conference room.

🍚

The dining hall is a self-service style, and the dishes are very rich, and there are free fruits and drinks after dinner.

Can think of logistics is really to spend the mind to carry out a variety of seasonal vegetables and meat, but because a lot of dishes are fried in a big pot, the taste is still a little bad, but the free can not expect too much.

Afternoon tea, a simple fruit platter and bread combo, is served at 3pm every day, with small gifts on holidays.

🏃

The company provides some simple entertainment facilities. When work is tired, I will shoot baskets and play table tennis with my colleagues.

In addition, the gym is also open to employees for free. If you get off work early in the evening, you can choose to go to the gym to sweat, and some good fitness courses are also provided. (No time to go)

In June last year, THE author also worked as an intern in Ali for a period of time. Here are the cognitive differences between the two internships. Need to explain in advance, on the matter, try to neutral Angle, with their most intuitive feelings to do a comparison.

Ali’s view of talent is intelligent, optimistic, honest and down-to-earth, which is indeed reflected in many people. And byte’s pursuit of perfection, pragmatism, openness, humility, openness, clarity, always entrepreneurial, multicultural, or ByteStyle, can seem a bit ethereal and hard to touch because it’s so hard to do. Of course, it is also the direction of the author’s efforts.

Admittedly, Bytedance is growing too fast. Project cycles are short and iteration is fast, which inevitably produces some low-quality engineering code, so this is not a pursuit of perfection. In Ali, most of the codes are very standard, and many of the norms they develop have become some of the norms in the industry.

It takes time, and bytes are moving in that direction.

From what I’ve seen so far, it seems to be part of what the company is most aware of and actually practicing. Two yuan, women’s wear, race of all colors, international elements can be seen everywhere in the company.

Byte implementation of flat management, employees can not see the corresponding rank, so that the communication will be more frank and clear, something to talk about. Just like the CEO Yiming warned everyone to concentrate on their work in the game group last time, everyone also gave a frank and clear response to the CEO in the internal group, which I think is impossible in other companies.

Ali’s rank can be seen on the nail (it seems to be hidden now), so there are still some scruples when communicating, especially with the leader. But now I think it’s good to have some clarity.

👩 💻

In Ali, the main business is related to game interaction, such as gold coins in Taobao. I feel a sense of accomplishment that the things I have made can be used by many people. I also have a deeper understanding of front-end animation and accessibility.

The business in Byte is TikTok’s operating platform, and the improvement in technology is not obvious. The usual business is complicated and difficult to understand, but this also makes the author deeply realize that it is the younger brother who is engaged in technology, and the key is to understand the business.

You can check Job Description (JD) for recruitment. The front end is mainly React, TypeScript, NodeJS, GraphQL, etc. The back end is mainly Go and Python. Most of the internal projects use some self-developed frameworks.

3. Development tools

In terms of personal habits, most of the group uses VSCode and GoLand, while a very small number of them use Vim, which makes them seem Geek. Many browser plugins are also required, such as MockHead, SwichOmega, Oilmonkey, etc., to improve efficiency.
