1. In the address box of the browser, enter https://www.python.org/


2. Move the mouse over to the Downloads menu and, if your computer is 32-bit, click Python 3.8.5 on the right to download the installation package. If it is 64-bit, click On Windows and then click on the contents in the red box below (32-bit or 64-bit, right-click “this computer” and click “Properties” to view).

-64 indicates a 64-bit installation package. If no, -64 indicates a 32-bit installation package

  • “Executable Installer” — offline installation package

3. Find the installation file

  • The first box is installed by default. The directory cannot be changed. You are not advised to install it in this directory
  • Second box: Select custom installation
  • Third box: Add Python to environment variables

4. Select Add Python 3.8 to PATH and click Customize Installation to Customize the installation, and use the default Settings in the installation options dialog box that is displayed


  • First: Install the Python help documentation
  • Second: Install the tool PIP for downloading Python packages
  • Third: Install Tkinter and IDLE development environment
  • Fourth: Install the standard library test suite
  • Fifth: Install a transmitter that all users can launch Python

5. Click Next. In the dialog box that is displayed, click Browse to set the installation path (based on your own requirements)


6. Click Install to start installing Python. When the installation is complete, the dialog box shown in the following figure is displayed


7. Check whether the installation is successful

Enter CMD in the search box. Enter Python at the command prompt and press Enter. If the following information is displayed, Python is successfully installed

PS: Right click the menu bar, click the properties button, you can adjust the window background color, font size, etc


8. If “python” is not an internal or external command, executable program or batch file “is displayed, this is because Windows looks for the python.exe executable based on the Path set by a Path environment variable. This happens when you leave “Add Python 3.8 to PATH” unchecked during installation and need to configure environment variables yourself.

  • 1) Right click “This Computer”, click “Properties”, click “Advanced System Settings” on the left, and the “System Properties Dialog box” will appear below.

  • 2) Click Environment Variables. The Environment Variables dialog box is displayed

  • 3) Select “Path”, create a new environment variable (the python installation Path on your computer), and click “OK”.

  • 4) Repeat step “7”. The following information is displayed:
