Nice to meet you ð

This post is for people who want to change cities/jobs (regardless of the tech stack), so close the window for those who like to “eat fast food.”
The dividing line starts
End of the dividing line
I’m glad you read this. I want to filter out some non-target readers in this way. I guarantee that the rest of the content will be full of dry ~ ð
This article will share my experience and experience of changing jobs across cities (I interviewed kuaishou and Byte, and got kuaishou offer).
I will summarize the three stages from the preparation before the interview -> the interview process -> the interview.
This is my first post for 2021, so let’s get started
Interview preparation
Basic disc for technical people?
In a previous article I mentioned the importance of building a systematic knowledge system.
One tip: It’s important to think of knowledge as a semantic tree, make sure you know the basics (i.e. trunks and boughs) before you get into the leaves/details, otherwise the leaves will have nowhere to go. “– Elon Musk
I recently came up with a better word to describe it. I call it “the basic disc of techies.”
People’s basic level refers to the long-term competitiveness of individuals.
Each person will have a different body of knowledge because they have a different technology stack and a different project experience. The “tech guy’s base plate” looks something like this:
-
Solid general knowledge of computer field (operating system, network, data structure, etc.)
-
Embrace change and have strong learning ability (technical field updates quickly)
-
Good communication and collaboration skills (most of the work is multi-person collaboration)
-
Solid knowledge of your own technology stack (dinner guy)
The interview is the process by which the interviewer labels the candidate
Label means to categorize people/things as quickly as possible.
Life is full of labeling scenes.
For example, label by age
- China’s post-90s generation
- America has Generation Z
- Japan has’ Lost Generation ‘
There are also tags in the game:
This is a picture of a player modeled in a basketball game. Labeled “basket impactor,” the player can quickly learn where the player is on the court and what his skills are.

Labeling is one of the most convenient means for human beings to know the world and carry out social communication.
Companies interview candidates and want to classify them as quickly as possible, so I think the interview is the process of the interviewer putting labels on the candidates. Of course this process has some limitations, but it is the fastest and easiest way to screen candidates. Some people think “tagging” is a derogatory term, but I think normally it’s a neutral term, and it’s a derogatory term when it means people simply and rudely make an incomplete evaluation of a label.
Since the interview process is a process in which the interviewer labels the candidate, the candidate should strive to present a positive label to the interviewer.
If it’s a bit abstract, here’s an example from myself:
I don’t have the labels “excellent education”, “Excellent project Experience”, “Big factory experience”, etc., but I do have other labels and try to show them in the interview process:
- “Solid basic Skills”
- “Self-drive”
- “Think for yourself”
- “Potential”
- .
How important is it to know what you want
I want to say: It’s important to know what you want.
People at each stage have their own needs. The figure above is a simple model of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
Picture taken from the Internet.
When you know what you want, it’s easy to choose a city and a company. Such as:
- If you’re at the safety level, you might want to go to a high-paying city, a high-paying company, and be able to work hard.
- If you reach the social or respect level, you may choose a city based on factors such as family and more on work-life balance.
- If you have reached a self-actualization stage, you may do more of what you love.
I am a person with strong planning, and I have planned to change my job in the city this time when I was in college.
- Self-taught Android in college
- Senior year enough credits internship
- Move to a first-tier city after gaining more than two years of work experience
My Android learning experience has been introduced in this article, interested partners can go to check.
If you know what you need, you know your choice, and then you can send your resume to the company you want ~ðĨģ
But there is a more efficient way.
Take every opportunity to be thick-skinned
I am sensitive and very concerned about what others think of me, which is called “small face” in Northeastern Chinese.
There is a saying: a thick skin is enough to eat, but a thin skin is not.
Being thin-skinned is likely to miss out on important opportunities. Let me give you a personal example.
When I just graduated, I heard about Nan Chen’s courses in HencoderPlus and knew his contact information, but it was not until Last November that I plucked up the courage to add him as a friend on wechat and asked him to help me with internal push. Later, I took the initiative to find Kuaishou’s internal push on V2Ex (I met another excellent friend).
Screenshots have been agreed by Nan Chen.
I found throwing line (Zhu Kai), Nan Chen and other big guys are very easygoing, even some lovely. Therefore, I really regret not communicating with them more during my college years. I might have made progress more quickly if I had done so.
But what if in life? I hope you can be a “thick skin” people, seize the opportunity to improve their own. Communicating with great people is a breeze (literally).
I hereby solemnly thank Nanchen for your help! (although the final entry byte was not ðĪĢ)
Nan Chen’s home page has his wechat account at ð
Details that might be useful to you
-
Quick hand and byte are usually three rounds of technical side + one round of HR side
-
There are algorithmic questions in each round of technical questions
-
Algorithm difficulty is basically leetcode simple/medium (low probability is difficult, encountered ð)
-
Kuaishou and Byte work late, so you can schedule your interview for around 8pm
-
Remote video interviews require a computer with a camera
-
Kuaishou and byte remote interview using niuke network, encountered problems can find artificial customer service (very kind) to solve
-
It is said that before the interview, the girlfriend’s encouragement kiss magic bonus oh ð
The interview process
A good memory is better than a recorder
I used to wonder why other people’s interviews were so complete. Relieved: Use audio/video recording for each round of interviews. I didn’t use the video recording software because IT wasn’t clear whether it would be considered cheating. I recorded the interview on my cell phone and left my computer playing outside during the interview. Can be combined with their own circumstances to choose the right way.
Maintain peace of mind
Inexperienced candidates have a hard time keeping their peace of mind.
I can count my previous interview experience on one hand. However, as the number of interviews increased (since July last year, I have communicated with 10 interviewers ðĪĢ), my mind gradually calmed down.
One tip: It’s important to do a number of “quality” interviews (not just to increase the number, but to review each interview to improve yourself) before you interview with a company you want to work for.
Details that might be useful to you
-
Turn off VPN and other programs during video interviews, otherwise there will be echoes! (otherwise will be noisy to mentality explosion ð )
-
If the equipment is not adjusted well, you can arrange another time to re-interview, do not tolerate the echo and then continue the interview, which affects the state (deeply suffering ð)
-
During the video interview, you can refresh the screen to reconnect (say hello to the interviewer).
-
Use a landline phone (quick hand usually uses a mobile phone) and be careful not to be intercepted by your own mobile phone
-
The link to the video interview website will be sent by email
Post-interview summary
How to break the feeling good cycle
Sometimes we fall into the trap of feeling good about ourselves after an interview when we really aren’t, which makes it hard to bounce back and improve.
Consider this question before attempting to solve it:
Why do we need to go to school to get an education when knowledge is so easy to acquire?
Plato gave a clear answer, arguing that it is only through discussion with others that we can know whether our own experiences are real or not. (Excerpted from Dr. Wu Jun’s Letter from Silicon Valley)
We can use the help of others to verify the accuracy of our expressions and opinions during the interview (of course, it is best to find a friend who is better than you to help analyze, what? Can’t find? See the section “Thick skin and Eat Enough”).
In this solemn thanks to throw line (Zhu Kai)! Thank Kai Ge for helping me to review after each round of interview and pointing out the existing problems.
Details that might be useful to you
-
Take advantage of the opportunity to ask the interviewer questions and ask her to review your performance (the interviewer is not obligated to do this, and expect a rejection)
-
Learn what you didn’t answer well during the interview, or expand the depth of what you already know
-
Adjust your attitude if the interview doesn’t go well
conclusion
-
Figure out what you want before moving to a new city/job, analyze your current needs and customize your plan accordingly
-
In the interview process, strength is the absolute truth, other skills are only auxiliary, so make sure your “basic plate” is solid
-
Opportunities are always for those who are prepared, but most of the time opportunities are for themselves, to be a “thick skin” person
-
Every interview is an opportunity to improve yourself. Take notes and review them
-
How to keep calm in the interview? Practice/brush up on interviews
