Usability testing is user experience-centered interaction design testing, through which product evaluation is carried out.
Broadly speaking, usability testing is user experience-centered interaction design testing, through which product evaluation is carried out. The advantage of this type of testing is that you can do early testing of your mobile application or website before committing to front-end development and writing code. So one might ask, is this really necessary? My answer is: Unless it doesn’t work, you’ll be surprised how horrible it is for users.
Without a doubt, usability testing can be done without even having a prototype, which is probably the best way to organize information and create prototype navigation. Some popular types of pre-prototype testing may include card sorting, tree structure testing, and user interviews. However, there will be corresponding differences in testing for different objects. Below, let’s take a look at some useful prototyping techniques
1. Use your real name. It may be fun to use silly or famous names, but is it really a good idea? You can imagine the answer. So, it’s best to use some real and generic names, which are now readily available in many places online.
2. Avoid images or ICONS with placeholders. Such images and ICONS may only work with wireframes and can be misleading when used in testing. For example, some people might think of such images as a combination of ICONS and shapes. Therefore, it is important to use appropriate images.
3. Early testing with lo-fi prototypes. It is recommended to test basic components such as navigation bars, tags, and some structural concepts with a low-fidelity prototype. Not only will it make testing more comfortable for your teammates, it won’t take time.
If you still don’t know what usability testing is, or how best to test your product, don’t worry. Here, I’ll use Mockplus (aka “Mockplus”), a “citizen” prototyping tool, to show you how to do usability testing faster and easier on different devices.
Overall, Mockplus has seven different ways to preview and test prototypes. Each method will be introduced one by one, even if the little white do not understand the code, design experience is almost zero can easily start.
1. Preview the software directly
You can switch to a separate preview page by pressing F5 or clicking the ‘Play’ button at the top of the menu bar. At the same time, you can choose whether to display links, comments, remarks, adjust the preview appearance, proportion, etc.
2. Export the image
Sometimes we need to export a page or pages of a prototype and send it to a colleague or friend to see what it looks like. If it seems inconvenient to use QQ screenshots and too cumbersome to use professional screenshots, you can use Mockplus’s ‘Export Image’ feature. It can be found in the drop-down options of the main menu in the upper left corner. You can export the current page as a picture and export all pages as a picture.
3.HTML online publishing
Publish by clicking on a cloud “publish” button in the top menu bar. When you’re done, click “View Project” for a preview and post-test. Copy the project URL and you can easily share the project with colleagues or clients.
4. Export the HTML offline package
This feature allows you to create an HTML page from your prototype and preview your prototype offline. When exporting, you can choose whether to display the control panel and whether to display the installation instructions when iOS is opened. You can also deploy HTML to your own server to share with colleagues or clients.
5. Export the demo package
Mockplus allows you to export a demo package, which you can use on a Windows or Mac PC to open an EXE or App file and preview the prototype. This method can directly run independently, no installation, no other software support.
6. Scan the QR code to view the prototype on your phone
When demonstrating a prototype in a browser, wouldn’t it be convenient to scan the QR code at the bottom left of the screen and open the mobile browser for a preview?
7. Enter the prototype code and view the prototype on the phone
After the project is published, enter the generated prototype view code directly and you can preview it offline. Note that you need to download the Mockplus mobile client first and make a project local download.
Remember, your design should not be tied to prototyping. The best prototyping tool may not be the best design tool, but it can save you a lot of time. I hope today’s share is helpful to you. If you have any suggestions or supplements, please feel free to comment.
