(67) Discourage majors
When I got back to my apartment after work, I turned the lock on the door and heard Galen’s meow, meow, meow. From the sound of its wailing, I heard a little lonely and cold. People really lonely, cats, dogs and birds are the same, all life is lonely.
Ever since Galen was given to me by Huang fei, he has been confined to my cramped 10-square-meter room. Long in the cage, it must be longing for freedom. But cats are not dogs. They don’t recognize their owners and get lost easily. Therefore, though I pity it, I dare not banish it to the wild.
As I opened the door and looked into Galen’s eyes, a warm feeling came over me, a feeling that someone at home was waiting for me. Galen, however, was not as sensitive as I was. He ran straight ahead, trying to make a run for the door. I put out a quick foot and closed the door, leaning over and hugging it.
I held it in my arms, and it lay meek in my arms. I petted him, massaged his head, and served him well. He squinted and looked like he was enjoying himself.
After a few minutes of pampering his head, he was cocky and clawed his way out of my grip. I was so stubborn that I had to let go of my grip and put her back on the ground, where she sprinted to the cage and stood in front of the China bowl of cat food, mewing.
I looked into the sound. The bowl was empty. I took a tin of fish out of a drawer and opened it to my feet. He darted up to me again, his head down, and sniffed at wolfsden. Nothing excites a cat like dried fish.
Huang knocked on the door while galen was changing the litter. He is here to inquire about applying for the IT training course.
After long deliberation, he finally decided to become a programmer. But he was torn between client development and big data development.
Both directions are hot right now, and one of the less desirable attributes of IT training organizations is that “they’re always up to date, they’re always looking at what’s going on in the industry, and they’re always pushing something new.”
With the popularity of iPhone, the Internet is full of training institutions that “learn iOS development, monthly salary more than 10,000” slogans. Big data is hot, full streets are “N days of data from entry to master” advertising.
Many new technologies actually need old knowledge as a foundation, the so-called foundation is not solid, shaking the earth. This is because they don’t produce real talent if they follow suit too soon.
Considering huang Fei’s academic background and ability, I suggest him to learn client development. I gave him a rundown of my thoughts and a friendly reminder of some of the problems I had recently encountered interviewing interns.
Seeing off Huang Fei, I naturally thought of Wang Shuai. Before leaving work, he texted me to ask about the results of my interview. He seems to be aware that he may have been caught out. But instead of being rejected in person, he must have hoped for me with a little luck. After all, as an interviewer, I gave him good feedback.
I was going to leave him alone. There’s nothing wrong with lying on your resume. Besides, he is not one of those rare talents. But his humility made me feel sorry for him. If not cherish the hard-won opportunity, who will curry favor with only one side of the strangers.
He might as well be given another chance. I opened my laptop, clicked on his blog page, and scanned it for clues. From his articles from a year ago, I found some notes and learning experiences from training courses.
He was a conscientious student. When confronted with an obscure concept, he would remark that he could not understand it and memorize it first. One day he will have an Epiphany and record that today he finally figured out how XX works.
I accepted Wang Shuai’s request to add friends on wechat. Face to face, he is not good at words. In the virtual world, he was free and eloquent. In that respect we are somewhat alike.
If I’m talking to a girl face to face, IT’s easy for me to get stuck with nothing to say. However, if I’m talking to a girl on social media, I can talk for a day and a night without repeating myself.
From literature to astronomy, from science to theology, from the wisdom of raising pigs to the spare cloud, from Gorky’s Petrel to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table…
After some communication, Wang Shuai confided the truth to me. After dropping out of high school, he bounced around doing business. He had 14 jobs in three years. I sold duck necks in Xi ‘an, stood pancakes in Baoding, traded clothes in Tianjin, assembled computers in Beijing…
Due to personality, the original job did not do long. Later, he signed up with a friend for a programming training class near Zhongguancun. When a friend gives up, he sticks it out. He graduated with honors this summer.
Some of his fellow graduates outsourced to small companies, while others returned to their old jobs after failing to find work. But he is unwilling, a mind to go to well-known big enterprises, to see the real Internet technology.
He thought that he had found a career that suited him and that he loved, and naively believed that he would have a great and bright future. Reality slapped him hard in the face. He applied to all the companies he could name in the industry, and most of his resumes were rejected. Once in a while, several companies gave him interview opportunities and finally approved the offer, and he was stuck on his degree.
After a few emotional rollercoaster rides, he decided to fake his resume to get some opportunities. He was going to rely on false education first into the lang Cloud internship, and finally rely on their own performance finally turned. When he gets a full-time job, he says he will come clean about his academic credentials. He thought that if he was good enough, the company would give him a chance.
In fact, he overestimated his own abilities and underestimated the company’s tolerance for such dishonesty. His behavior was dishonorable, and if I hadn’t read his articles carefully, I would have screened him and left him to self-pity, nothing to do with me. What kept me reading those articles was not his writing style, but his innocence and his reverence for technology.
I appreciate his persistence and effort. I have seen too many people who think they are underappreciated, and I have read too many articles lamenting social injustice. But WHAT I see is that these people are addicted to their words. They are giants in their words, but they are dwarfs in their actions. In the depths of a swamp, self-help is king. There are too many keymen in the world.
While the Internet is highly inclusive and less selective about origin, the pool of talent to sift through is growing as people flood in. Such a first-class company like Langyun is more and more strict to the degree card, let alone technical secondary school students is this year’s undergraduate students into Langyun is also increasingly difficult.
I don’t have the right to be an outsider, but I want to help Wang Shuai. I appealed to The God of Health, who, after understanding the whole story, said he could not help. Wang Shuai is not good enough to let Lang Yun exceptionally hire him. I thought he was technically okay, but only by the standards of an intern.
I expressed my regret to Wang Shuai that he could not join the company. He was very upset.
He asked me on wechat how to get ahead as a programmer, and I pretended to list them for him. I didn’t really have a plan, and the lofty rhetoric was just empty talk. After work, MOST of the time, I am so busy moving that I hardly have time to stop and think.
I remonstrated with him to stop smarty-pants resume falsification, sincere commendable. Interviewers are experts, and it’s easy to catch a fake. He agreed, saying that he had stopped daydreaming and was going to find an outsourcing company to do it first.
Near midnight, we ended up chatting on wechat for nearly an hour. Before falling asleep, I checked my moments and saw wang Shuaifa’s new status.
“I talked with a veteran in the industry, so I don’t look up to the stars, but keep my feet on the ground. All the hardships I am going through now are punishment for not studying hard in the past.”
I’m not a big shot. I’m just a bum.
68. Try to break the rules
The next morning, when I went to work and went out of the apartment, I met Huang Fei who was brushing his teeth and talked with him specially. I urged him to think again about whether he was really cut out to be a programmer.
With the vivid example of Wang Shuai in front of me, I was afraid that huang Feixue would repeat his mistakes after he became successful.
Many of my friends and relatives asked me if I could be a programmer, and I was mostly encouraging. Recently, after seeing the status quo of some industries, I have become more and more cautious in expressing my opinions for fear of delaying the future of others.
Huang Fei is to see very open, he said if not programmer, he will return home to open a barbecue shop. Anyway, his aunt was no longer a doorman, and it was a miserable life to live under someone else’s care.
After the group routine morning meeting, everyone dispersed. I stayed in the conference room and told Kang Again about Wang Shuai’s situation, hoping that Kang Could give him a glimmer of hope.
Kang god stared at me suspiciously: “your relatives?”
I quickly shake head way: “not, be to see that elder brother is pitiful. Living in a basement that doesn’t see the sun, clothes that smell like mold. Also eat instant noodles every day, thin like a bamboo pole. I think he has a passion for technology and his personal level is ok. I might as well give him a chance.”
Kang god ponder for a moment way: “I ask HR for a while, look like he this kind of situation has a way to accommodate?”
I nodded and said, “That troubles you.”
Kangshen replied: “I estimate the hope is not big, have a try.”
As lunch approached, Kang Shen sent me a voice message on wechat.
He said it was very difficult to deal with wang Shuai’s situation. He was no longer a student, and the company definitely could not sign an internship contract with him. In addition, HR will definitely not pass his high school diploma. Unless he has special approval from the technical director, which is impossible with his current skill level.
Wang couldn’t go either way, but Kang shen pointed out a third way for him. In order to mobilize the work enthusiasm of the outsourcing personnel, Langyun will select some excellent people from the outsourcing personnel to become regular employees of Langyun every year.
Although there are few examples of outsourcing personnel successfully becoming full-time employees of Largencloud in terms of technology, it is not unprecedented. The operation and Maintenance department has a middle level leader, who has been promoted to the current deputy director level by outsourcing personnel.
Kang Shen sent me the email addresses of several outsourcing team leaders and suggested that Wang Shuai interview those outsourcing companies docking with Langyun.
I think this curve to save the country is a bright road, then explained the situation to Wang Shuai. Wang Shuai was finally convinced by me and decided to start from an outsourcing company.
A week later, after multiple interviews, Wang shuai successfully applied for a test development position in an outsourcing team. On my first day, he treated me to a boiled fish dinner in the langyun underground canteen.
Some people get the opportunity easily, others may struggle to reach. I didn’t help Wang Shuai a lot. I hope he can realize his goal of becoming a regular employee of Langyun with his own efforts.
Since then, Wang Shuai and I often meet in lang Yun Mansion. Every time we met, he would grab me for a chat. We would talk about each other’s recent situation, although we did not become deep friends, but every time we saw each other felt warm.
Originally the bamboo figure of Wang Shuai, after entering langyun increasingly mellow. With a good income, he moved from the basement to the ground and became a lot happier.
