Issue 1: Future PostgreSQL sharding

Speaker: Bruce Momjian

About Bruce Momjian Bruce Momjian is co-founder and core team member of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group and author of The Introduction and Concepts of PostgreSQL published by Ad-Dison-Wesley. Bruce Momjian has been employed by EnterpriseDB since 2006 and currently serves as vice President of EnterpriseDB.

Phase 2: Table partitioning in Postgres

Speaker: Amit Langote

Amit Langote is one of the leading developers of the PostgreSQL community from EnterpriseDB Japan. He has contributed to the development of major features in recent PostgreSQL releases, such as table partitioning and command progress reporting. Topic sharing: Table partitioning is an important tool for developers and DBAs to deal with large and growing database tables. Postgres has long allowed users to partition tables in its database, but it wasn’t easy to do so until Postgres 10, which adopted a new DDL syntax for partitioned tables. Postgres11, 12, and the upcoming 13 go a long way toward making partitioning functional and performance-wise enough for users to seriously consider partitioning in production.

Phase 3: Query routing technology using PGPool-II

Speaker: Ishii Tatsuo

He is the founder of Japanese PG User Association and the original author of PG-Pool-II. He has been involved as a core member of the PostgreSQL international community. Tatsuo Ishii currently works at SRA OSS, Inc., Japan. Outside of work, he enjoys reading science fiction, including the Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin.

PostgreSQL supports stream replication clustering and is widely used. However, this depends on whether the user routes read or write queries to the primary or secondary server. For example, listening to notifications is not allowed in a standby server, but they are allowed in a read-only transaction. Pgpool-ii can help you by providing flexible policies to route user queries without detailed knowledge of alternate server limitations.
