OW2, an international open source community based in Europe, has recently launched Quick App Initiatives, an interest group that aims to provide a platform for fast application technology exchange and sharing among developers around the world. The interest group will gather international experts from multiple industries and fields to explore the application scenarios of fast application technology in various vertical fields, and jointly promote fast application technology iteration and ecological development.

Mr. Wang Xuemin, Vice President of Huawei European Research Institute, mentioned the establishment of Quick App Initiatives (English name Quick App Initiatives) within OW2, an open source community in Europe, to promote the intercommunication and development of the MiniApps standard represented by Quick App, with the hope that more and more developers will join in. We will work together to create more innovative fast applications serving all walks of life, jointly build a new application ecology, and promote the development of Internet services in the new era.

At the same time, the fast application interest groups will be technical service ability to development guidance, and practice case, reference documentation, open form, such as the development of open source tools and code templates for developers, attract terminal hardware manufacturers, content providers, such as academic institutions, any individual, enterprise or organization to join the fast application of ecological construction, application technology and more quickly to discuss industry between innovation integration.

Cedric Thomas, CEO of OW2, the open source community, also commented, “We are very excited to launch the Fast Apps Interest Group with our industry partners and look forward to the fast apps ecosystem growing rapidly in our community.”

MiniApp mode represented by fast application will play an important role in the new era

Today, all walks of life are embracing new business opportunities brought about by the trend of digital transformation and introducing innovative services. For example, hospitals are launching online registration and online consultation. Airlines support seat selection in advance; Businesses provide a wealth of online promotions; Game manufacturers put out games that can be opened anytime, anywhere, and so on. MiniApp, represented by quick application, is a new lightweight mobile application based on Web technology. It has the characteristics of “no installation, click and use, direct service”, so that users can easily access the required content and services anytime and anywhere, no matter what kind of scene they are in. It is naturally suitable for such scenes.

“Represented by fast application MiniApp mode plays an important role in the new era,” Mr Huawei xue-min wang, vice President of the European research institute, “the user can in huawei mobile terminals such as easy to find and use the fast application under various scenarios, no installation, a key to open, to enjoy the same as the native applications without the experience and performance. Quick apps are based on native rendering and have a similar application experience to traditional apps.”

At the same time, fast apps also have the advantage of being easy to develop, which can help developers quickly seize new opportunities in the new era. Pablo Coca, Director of Business Development and Operations at European research institution CTIC, says: “Rapid development deployment is the decisive factor in innovative projects and time constraints are critical. Fast apps can help overcome that.”

Fast application is developing rapidly in China and has a bright future in Europe and other regions

In China, miniApps, represented by Kuaidi Apps, have begun to take shape. According to statistics, about 10% of the Internet traffic in 2020 will come from MiniApp. Kuaidapp has more than 1.2 billion devices on the network, and user retention exceeds 70%. Compared with last year, the number of active users increased steadily by 37%, and the number of active fast apps increased steadily by more than 46%. Kuaidapp has become a more convenient and efficient lightweight application choice in the 5G era with its innovative experience of “no installation, click and use”.

In Europe and other regions, miniApp is still in its infancy and has a very broad application prospect. Based on the features of “no installation, instant use and direct service” of Kuaidapp, users can easily open games, get shopping coupons, choose seats online, book hotels, obtain information of public transportation and health services, etc., which saves users’ mobile phone space and waiting time for installation, and enables users to fully feel a better digital life.

“The market opportunity for fast apps is huge,” said Brian Meidell, CEO of FRVR, a European gaming company. “The consumer experience has changed dramatically,” says Ilker Aydin, CEO of Famobi, a European gaming company. Together, let’s accelerate content creation for fast apps and bring new standards to the market.”

Huawei is actively opening up its technological capabilities to promote the development of the global fast application ecosystem. Huawei Quick Application IDE provides intelligent support from the whole process of development, construction, debugging, testing, release, etc., to achieve efficient development and operation across systems and terminals, to achieve a point of access, global full scene distribution, and at the same time, to open Huawei HMS core capabilities such as Huawei account, in-app payment, positioning, message notification, etc. From the product capability, user experience, advertising realization, scene expansion, developer support, traffic support, multi-terminal coverage and other aspects of power, continue to empower the majority of developers.

As of the first quarter of 2021, the global monthly activity of Huawei Quick Apps increased by 150% year on year; The number of Huawei fast apps in the world increased by 260% year on year. In the future, Huawei will continue to work with the open source community OW2 to promote the application of global fast apps in all walks of life, promote industrial development, and work with developers to create a better digital life for users.
