Photoshop menu: Filter/Render/Lighting effects

You can produce an infinite variety of lighting effects on RGB images, and you can also use textures from grayscale files (called convex and concave maps) to produce a 3D-like effect. Often used to simulate the effect of a light source on an image. The effect is quite powerful, allowing the user to apply different light sources, light types and light characteristics.

In fact, this effect can play a very good light and shadow effect in scenery photos, portrait photos, due to space limitations, this paper does not give examples of these aspects, please adjust the relevant parameters according to the characteristics of the photos.

Tip:

(1) You need to check the GPU in the preferences to use this filter.

(2) Work in 8-bit/channel RGB mode.

Three types of light

Point light: Like a light bulb, so that light hits the image in all directions.

Spotlight: Casts an elliptical beam of light like a spotlight. The lines in the preview window define the light direction and Angle, while the handle defines the elliptical edges.

Infinite light: Like the sun, so that light shines on the entire plane.

Description:

The 17 light presets are a combination of these three light sources. In the lighting option in the options bar, you can click Add light source and change the type of light source arbitrarily. Up to 16 light sources can be accommodated.

Properties panel \

Parameters to adjust the current lighting effect can also be adjusted through the lighting control on the image.

Associated with a single light source

— Color, intensity

Set the light color. Default is white.

The intensity value representing normal brightness is about 50.

– concentrated

Set the focusing Angle, which is valid only under the spotlight.

Related to overall illumination

— Coloring, exposure

Fill in the overall lighting color with control highlights and shadow details.

Gloss –

Sets the degree to which the surface reflects light.

— Metallic texture

Determine which reflectivity is higher. Negative reflects the color of the light source, and positive reflects the color of the object.

Environment –

Diffuse light so that the light is like any other light in the environment.

Texture, height

Description:

(1) Texture channels use grayscale images (called bump maps) to control how light is reflected from objects.

(2) You can use any channel in the image as a texture, or create Alpha channel as a texture in advance, such as using fabric or water wave image textures.

(3) Different relief effects can be obtained by using textures. Height value is positive, convex effect; Is negative, sag effect.

Light source panel \

Description:

(1) Can hide or show a light source.

(2) All light sources or several light sources can be selected for unified adjustment.

(3) To delete a light source, you can drag it to the trash can icon in the lower right corner.

application

1. Change the tone of the image.

2. Change the concentrating area and lighting effect of the image.

3. Use texture channels to create 3D effects for text effects, photos, etc.

4. Add a watermark to the image.
