background
There are now more than 250 million active Android tablets, foldable devices and ChromeOS devices, according to official statistics.
As demand continues to grow, users are doing more on the big screen than ever before (e.g., socializing/playing games, etc.);
In order to ensure the experience of a large number of users, Google has adjusted the strategy of the App Store to push App developers to provide quality apps to users. Below we will take a look at the adjustment strategy and relevant suggestions for App development
Store change
There are three major updates involved
- Promote relevant rankings/searches/recommendations etc
- User alerts for low-quality apps
- Device breakdown of ratings and reviews
Promotion of related
First of all, let’s look at the first point, which is to adjust the promotion logic according to the App quality
How to judge the quality of App? There are three broad categories of criteria
Tier 3 (Basic requirements)
Users can complete key processes, but the user experience is not ideal, for example: the application needs to be able to run full-screen (or full-window in multi-window mode), but the application layout may not be ideal. Provides basic support for external input devices (keyboard, mouse, and trackpad)
2) Tier 2 (better)
The application implements layout optimization for all screen sizes and device states. Enhanced external input device support
3) Tier 1 (best)
The app provides a user experience designed for tablets, foldable devices and the Chrome OS. Support for multitasking, foldable posture, drag and drop, and stylus input
For example, there are 10 sub-standards for Tier 3, including T3-1 and T3-2
Tier 3 includes 10 standards, including T3-1 and T3-2

This will affect how apps are displayed in search results and home page recommendations, with the goal of helping users find the best apps for their devices
User warning
For apps that do not meet basic compatibility requirements, we will update the current alerts on the larger screen to help set expectations for how the app will look and function once installed
Rating and review breakdown
The default rating displayed in Play will be the rating of the type of device the user is using, which can then be broken down by device type (such as tablet and foldable device, Chrome OS, Wear or Auto) to better fit the App and provide a better user experience
Developer advice
Google will be pushing hard for this change in the coming months, so we developers should be quick to implement it to avoid delays in app distribution
Here are a few official adaptation tools and address:
1) Modify your application according to quality standards

2) Using a responsive layout, it ADAPTS itself to phones, foldable devices, and Chrome OS devices

4) Coverage of Play Management Center and breakdown of device types published in the device section, tracking device type changes in core indicators and distribution of users and problems across device types
PS: Use the Device Type filter to select one or more device types for analysis in Reach and Device
