Open-falcon is an Open source monitoring system solution developed by Xiaomi, which covers more than 300 enterprises including Xiaomi, Meituan, Kuaiwang and Didi. It has become one of the most popular monitoring systems in China. In order to enable more people to use and participate in open-Falcon project, Xiaomi has recently completed the translation of English document version 0.2, which further promotes the internationalization of Open-Falcon.
Open-falcon has achieved 3000+ stars on Github, hundreds of forks, hundreds of pull-requests, and more than 6000+ community users. More than 300 companies are using Open-Falcon to varying degrees, distributed in different regions at home and abroad. Such as Mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan and so on.
The community has contributed support for MySQL, Redis, Windows, switches, LVS, Mongodb, Memcache, Docker, MESos, URL monitoring, and more. It is reported that there are plug-ins such as public cloud, network, MySQL, hardware monitoring, GPU and so on released and updated in succession.

Open-falcon is a monitoring system, and monitoring systems are the most important part of the entire operation and maintenance process and product life cycle. As a mature operation and maintenance product, there are many open source implementations to choose from, such as Zabbix, Nagios, Ganglia, Zenoss, Hyperic HQ, OpenNMS, Cacti, and so on.
With the continuous expansion of enterprise scale, more and more objects are monitored, and the capacity of monitoring system and user “efficiency” have become the most prominent problems. Xiaomi said it designed and developed its monitoring system, Open-Falcon, based on the needs of Internet companies and the experience and feedback of SRE, SA and DEVS.
Prior to this, Xiaomi has launched a series of open source projects:
Linden (Distributed Real-time Search System)
Open-falcon (Internet Enterprise Monitoring System)
Pegasus (Distributed KV Storage System)
MACE (Self-developed mobile deep Learning Framework)
MobileAIBench (mobile neural network framework benchmarking project)
In fact, Xiaomi has been an advocate of embracing open source and promoting AI technology to empower China’s tech industry. Lei Feng learned that Xiaomi has actively participated in many international major open source projects, such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark and TensorFlow, and has made many important contributions. It is worth mentioning that in the HBase project, two PMC members and seven committers have been trained as core members of the community.
In terms of AI, Xiaomi has developed Mobile AI Compute Engine (MACE), a deep learning framework for Mobile terminal. Industry developers can take advantage of MACE’s powerful AI acceleration technology. In AI photography, AI image processing, intelligent object recognition, intelligent interaction, machine translation and other aspects of the development of more interesting and powerful applications.
“Embracing open source is an important part of Xiaomi’s engineering culture.” They also hope that more people will continue to pay attention to the development of the open source community.
