Xiao Feng, who worked at Facebook and Google for five years, moved to SpaceX, a cool company. Tired of the routine of typical IT companies and eager for the excitement and excitement of life, Xiao chose SpaceX, the coolest company in the universe.
At the same time, he also met with Tesla, Nvidia, Netflix and other atypical IT companies. These new IT companies are no slackers when IT comes to hiring programmers, offering hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Here are some of xiao’s interviews with some of the coolest companies in the universe. Have you ever considered a cool job after staying at FLAG for a long time?

SpaceX: Civilian space exploration is not a dream
We can see the successful launch of SpaceX’s own rocket by a private company. With SpaceX planning a test flight around the world in two to three years, air travel is really coming! SpaceX has come a long way to achieve a signature achievement that has eluded many state-owned space agencies.
That’s why SpaceX has a high bar for interviews. A green card is the first requirement for an interview because of cooperation with NASA, the U.S. military.
In terms of recruitment process, interview questions, architectural style, and staff composition, onsite onsite facilities are also different from the current mainstream IT firms.
As you can see from the HR phone wheel, other big companies basically just give you a notice to schedule an off time. SpaceX starts looking at your knowledge of data structures and operating systems from HR, and if HR isn’t satisfied, there’s no next round.
The subsequent process was also abnormal — unexpectedly, the electrical surface was first arranged for OA. You will be given 6 hours of OA and will only be allowed to answer questions in C/C++. The topic of coding wheel is not mainstream, and the system design is closely related to satellite management/satellite-ground communication.
So the company is more suitable for programmers who already have green cards and have ambitions to explore the future.
Tesla: A sweatshop for Martians
When SpaceX took off, so did tesla, which has seen its share price soar from $834.8 to $982.13 since June 1. Tesla, a company owned by Musk, also has a lot of “crazy” genes. Since its IPO in 2010, Tesla’s stock price has risen by 30 times, making it arguably the most valuable automaker in the world. This shows that cars using new energy and technology have become the trend of the moment.
Tesla has two main business divisions, Vehicle and Engergy. Most Software Engineers are located in HQ in Palo Alto. Tesla’s management is very flat, which enables each group to have relatively high autonomy and innovative thinking.
However, due to Musk’s high demands on employees, both companies are under high pressure, and Tesla has been called a real “sweatshop”. Forget about WLB, some groups might be better than domestic 996.
Besides, Tesla’s BAR is relatively high, and the OA link is much more difficult than other big factories, with tricky questions and less time than other big factories. Onsite when take you around the factory is “traditional art”, HR even at the last also require you to write an essay to musk, after he agreed to offer, but musk exactly have time to watch that is not clear.
Tesla’s stock rally has been horrendous, a testament to the company’s potential. So programmers who want more money and aren’t afraid to work hard can do it.
NVIDIA: Once a graphics card guru, now an AI pioneer
NVIDIA got its start as a game console but quickly dominated the market as a GPU. In the graphics card market today, only AMD can compete even slightly.
NVDIA is now focusing on AI applications, such as improving AI processors, improving AI’s semantic understanding, improving search engine suggestions, and even enabling public cloud, logistics, retail, and driverless cars.
Despite NVIDIA’s relative obscurity in the Bay Area, its package is as good as any of the big players. Intern, in particular, is basically on par with Google. NVIDIA’s ESPP, on the other hand, has been heavily discounted in recent years, allowing it to enjoy a multiples return on its stock.
In addition, NVIDIA is very friendly to new Grad and new recruits. When many companies announced the cancellation of INTERN this year, NVIDIA made it clear that it is still recruiting new Grad, and the fall internship of 2020 will continue as usual. It’s also one of the few companies available as a landing option this year.
Netflix: Who can resist 400K a year
House of Cards, Black Mirror We all know the quality of American TV series, yes, it is the famous Netflix (Netflix). The paid video site offers a different viewing experience for viewers around the world, but at first I wondered why the company would be involved with programmers.
Originally, in order to provide better experience to the audience, the algorithm team of Netflix spent 4 years to re-coding, and processed different movies more finely, and even had their own encoding between different episodes of the same drama. So Netflix needs to hire a lot of algorithmic engineers to create better products.
And Netflix is not only hiring, it’s paying ridiculous salaries. Netflix’s biggest recruiting feature is that its base is several times higher than other IT giants! Although employees get little stock, the average annual salary of 454K is enough for employees to work for it wholeheartedly.
At present, however, the company only hires seniors with more than five years of experience and excludes new hires. Netflix’s CEO has said that they want to build a champion “team” at the professional level. Not some third-rate amateur “team”. So at Netflix, it’s a very competitive environment. It does away with formal performance appraisals, leaving no standard for low-performance, meaning anyone can walk away at any time.
Many technical topics of Netflix are related to real work. The culture memo must be better read and more examples should be considered. Just as it does for screenwriters, the trick to interviewing Netflix is to brush your face and make the most of the conversation with the interviewer.
