The most important thing is to change your mindset first.
Being in management is different from being in technology. You are no longer in the elite mindset of being a lone Wolf or a superhero yourself, but in the mindset of being an elite “athlete” into a “coach”.
To a large extent, to achieve this mindset shift, you have to learn to work through the team and get results from others. There are a lot of skills that need to be honed. For example, “How do I get results from others?” “, “Why should anyone listen to you? “And” How do you get others to approve of you? “And” How to find the direction and path to success? “, “How to control path progress and execution process risk? “And” How to cultivate teams and individuals? The capacity model required to learn how to deal with people is completely different from the capacity model required to do good research and development. This huge difference will force you out of your comfort zone without much change in the environment you work in and the people you work with, leaving you struggling to adapt, even to walls, and even to self-doubt.
But you should still be confident, not arrogant, and open to learning. After all, excellent people have the opportunity to do management, and their foundation is not bad. What they need is to devote themselves to self-improvement and self-training. What are the directions to study? How to train and improve yourself? This is also a huge problem.
Third, we should start from win-win situation in everything.
Do not think that management can be capricious, do not squander your post authority and political credibility.
Although management will meet all kinds of people, the core of management is to explore what the other side wants, meet the other side’s needs, give the other side space and authorization, and achieve the realization of my own goals, so as to form a win-win situation.
Sometimes it is necessary to sacrifice the immediate interests of a small number of people temporarily. At this time, authority and political credibility can be used appropriately to guarantee, but it should also be used carefully. This is a double-edged sword, and the backlash is very severe.
On the other hand, by doing everything in a win-win way, you will accumulate your authority and credibility, make people like you and trust you, and follow you to achieve goals.
Fourth, to have business thinking
Pick out the technical field of vision to look at the business, the starting point of thinking must be how to do business well, rather than how to get the latest best technology fall to the ground in a business, or with a technology that hammer hammer anywhere and see what business can nail, also don’t think technology project promotion is how to do high concurrency and high reliable application of the cow force, The development and success of your business is the most fundamental success, and the engineering architecture of how to use what technology will be pushed back (of course, in the face of complex business and changing production environment, excellent technical background is the basic threshold).
