I am as shocked as you are to become an official GitHub Star! 🤯
Many readers may not know what the GitHub Star is, but let me introduce it first:
GitHub Stars is GitHub’s official motivation and recognition program: It honors outstanding influencers and contributors in the GitHub community who are passionate about helping, influencing, and inspiring others in the community. GitHub officially recognizes these people as stars of the GitHub community, and that’s GitHub Star.
GitHub Star comes from GitHub’s 40 million developers, not including current GitHub staff, a total of 300 places. At present, there are two in China: one is the VP of ECharts (Ovilia), and the other is the initiator of HelloGitHub (521Xueweihan), your bittern egg. 😘
Becoming a GitHub Star will result in GitHub “preferential treatment”, such as: I feel that GitHub still attaches great importance to this plan by participating in the internal test of features, joining the official group, displaying badges, gifts, and conference events on the homepage. The Slack group I add has GitHub’s senior management, and I see that they are actively involved in the discussion of GitHub Star’s suggestions. I just joined the group and I’m in the dive phase. Later, I plan to give feedback to them about the problem that GitHub in China cannot access from time to time, and see if I can solve this problem from GitHub.
Finally, GitHub will open a page for contributions and personal information to increase exposure.

I’m officially “stamped” by GitHub! 🥳
The stars don’t ask the wayfarers
I did it for five years. Late at night after each monthly issue, I would get up tired and look out the dark and silent window, looking for the stars looming. More than once I asked myself: is it worth it to be so tired? In addition, when I encounter people who question whether what I do is meaningful or deny the value of HelloGitHub, I always hold a breath in my heart, hoping to get more attention and Star, eager to get more people’s recognition, to prove that what I do is valuable! 👊
Because of this, the honor of GitHub Star is a great encouragement and recognition to me. It shows that GitHub officials see and recognize the value of HelloGitHub, the official recognition of what I am doing! This makes me more determined to go on when I face doubts in the future! And I have not only my HelloGitHub — Team friends, but also my readers who have been supportive, rewarding and tolerant. HelloGitHub wouldn’t be here without you!
So, this honor is not just for me, it includes everyone on HelloGitHub Team: Xiaxia, Dried fish, Fatty Man, Xunge, etc., as well as readers and friends who have been supporting and encouraging me.
If I was looking for the stars before, this is it: Traveller, you’ve been found by the stars.
Time comes to him who waits
For five years now, I’ve really only done one thing: share interesting, entry-level open source projects on GitHub. It is my honor to become a GitHub Star in this way. Since I take the honor, I must shoulder the responsibility. I will continue:
- Explore high-quality projects in the open source community, so that more people like and join them;
- Guide partners interested in the open source community into the open source family;
- Help/support initial open source projects, including: suggestion, direction, promotion;
In fact, the threshold of doing open source projects is not high. Like most programmers, I am an ordinary Python programmer with a bachelor’s degree and no major factory experience. I don’t write the underlying framework, I don’t know what an open source project is at a glance, but I pick and choose each project carefully, put my energy into maintaining my project and making it better and better, and continue to devote my spare time. Speaking of which, a little digression:
When people ask me what my interests are, I respond with “Do you know GitHub?” If I knew, I’d be doing open source projects. If I didn’t, I’d say, “I write code in my spare time. “I said the same thing on blind dates, and the result was predictable. 😅
Anyway, I just want to tell you that what I do, everyone can do and can do better than me. Just be a heart! And believe that time can make ordinary things, become extraordinary! Have a heart, the magic of time to see?
The last
Stars don’t ask passers-by, time comes to him who waits. HelloGitHub 🐂 🍺!!
I am the initiator of HelloGitHub.
