01Design your resume around the subject of the project

According to one study, recruiters (especially at large companies) spent only about 7.4 seconds analyzing a resume in 2019. In a few seconds, if he can’t find anything interesting, he’ll Pass your resume.

So before you start writing your resume, keep in mind that your resume is meant to convey information, and make sure it’s focused. Don’t t be too dense with irrelevant information, which will bury your strengths and distract the recruiter from the main point. So what information should you put on your resume?

For developers, your project is your resume. You need to highlight your project and the skills it involves so recruiters can see them at a glance. The body of your resume, at least half of it, should be projects you’ve worked on or achievements you’ve achieved.

If you’re a student, your resume doesn’t have to include your GPA, courses you’ve taken, scholarships you’ve won, student union leadership, club activities you’ve organized, passed cet-4, CET-6, etc. Those things are useless for business and lack the ability to demonstrate them in a targeted way.

You also should not describe your work attitude, such as “team player,” “initiative,” “hard worker.” This is by default, not a score.

02Tailor your skills to the needs of the organization

The next question is, how should the project experience be written in a way that will impress recruiters?

Think of it this way: the purpose of a company is to find people to help it solve problems, or to hire people to help it do things. If you show him that you can do his job, he’ll want you.

The company is not sure who is qualified for the job. It can only assume that if you have mastered several core skills required for the job, you are preliminarily qualified.

So what companies are looking for on a resume is whether you have the skills they are looking for. That’s the information recruiters care about the most. Therefore, your resume should highlight that you have the skills the organization is looking for and that your experience shows you can do the job.

The skills that companies are looking for are often specific technologies. You should include key words for these skills in your resume, and be specific, not just in the main categories. For example, for a Java position, don’t just write about Java, but about the Spring stack or Dubbo, messaging middleware, etc.

Be careful not to misspell words or miscapitalization when writing technical nouns, such as “SpringBoot” as “SpringBoot” or “SpringCloud” as “SpringCloud”, which is unprofessional.

03Three elements of the project

In fact, there is a formula for writing project information.

Project = product + technology + results

According to Google, when job applicants describe their experiences, they must provide three pieces of information about each experience:

What products did you make?

What technology was used?

What were the results?

In addition to the three basic pieces of information, the project description should also note the following points.

(1) Mainly introduce new projects, your experience in the past three to four years is the most important. Do not describe older projects in detail.

(2) Highlight the project scale, such as the number of users, how many TERabytes of data, daily revenue or transaction volume.

(3) It’s best to start with all verbs. This makes people feel succinct and powerful. To avoid monotony, verbs can also be conjugated, such as “develop,” “implement,” “deploy,” and “complete.”

Quantify your project and give numbers

Finally, each project description should be quantified, preferably with a number. This will greatly enhance your resume’s credibility and professionalism, and make it memorable to recruiters.

For example 1

Design and implement the X function of CRM system.

Rewrite: Designed and implemented feature X, a new feature in the CRM system that enables 20,000 users to easily track their business expenditures.

For example 2

Before rewriting: Improved query performance using Redis caching technology.

Improved query performance by 50% using Redis caching technology.

Deliver your resume accurately

Clear target positions

Typical cases:

Job Objective: Java Engineer, Java Architect, Project Manager (want to try everything)

A lot of job intention is equivalent to no intention, when the personal job intention is not clear, HR will be confused about what position you apply for, matching and screening work will not be able to carry out, resume will be discarded. So, you have to figure out exactly what position you’re applying for.

High compatibility

Typical one-to-one cases of production and delivery:

One of my former classmates has experienced two job-hopping. During the two job-hopping, the hit rate of each company she applied for was 100%, and she was invited for interview. On the resume delivery secret said: “I make a special resume for the desired enterprise, before making a detailed understanding of the situation of the enterprise, find out the needs of the enterprise, in the resume to give their own ideas and strategies, at the same time write their successful experience, the content is substantial and sincere.

In the case of the need to jump the enterprise is clear, to understand the needs of the enterprise to do enough homework, and have specialized in the production of a resume with personal strategy to deliver, this will be able to attract the attention of the enterprise. Highly qualified professionals are encouraged to use this approach.

Eye-catching resume titles

Typical cases:

In the enterprise HR before I say: “open the mailbox every day there will be hundreds of thousands of resumes, its email name is name of your resume, most is the name of the job seekers, nothing special, but some such as resume name contains position, length of service, special features, such as information, and conforms to the requirements, we will let me excited, I will open the first. Resume name set belongs to overlooked part of a resume skills, in the network have a resume, proposed with the name of the position, professional, work experience time, name of specialty resume quickly to attract the attention of HR, than with a name, saying, this solicitation statements more direct and effective, when interested in HR with the mentality of reading the resume content are more likely to form a deep impression, If the content itself is high quality, it will increase your chances of getting an interview.

Aimed delivery time

Typical cases:

A few kids have asked me, “I’m used to sending out resumes at home on weekends, and I assume I’ll be inundated with interviews on Monday, but I’m not sure when I’d be better off. Targeting delivery time is a matter of keeping track of the HR’s working hours, keeping your resume at the top of their inbox while keeping the HR in the highest mood. Therefore, it is recommended that job seekers choose Tuesday. Resumes will be sent out in the morning of Wednesday. At this time, resumes accumulated last week have been basically processed. When the number of resumes is small, the reading time of each resume will be slightly increased, and the working mood and quality of HR will be relatively high in the morning.

06 summary

Apply for IT industry, difficulty is not high actually. Because the industry is very short of engineers, especially middle and senior engineers.

Companies themselves know that it is not easy to recruit highly qualified senior engineers. Because everyone is robbing people, meet the right candidate, a little slow, may be cut off by other companies. So, as long as your level meets the minimum requirements of the organization, they will be willing to hire you, or at least give you an interview.

As a candidate, you can easily get an Offffer if you can prove that you have qualified project development skills. So here’s what you really need to do: develop your skills and take on more projects. Then follow the tips above, and faithfully reflect the project information on your resume, you will be sure to have a smooth job search.
