I. Personal introduction

Hello! Hello, I’m Xiao Wen. Yes, my flower name is very similar to my online name. My online name is Xiao Wen, and my flower name is Xiao Wen. Today, I would like to share how TO win the offer of TAOBAO P6 +. My subtitle is “Think Like a Boss.”

1.1 Personal Profile

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. From 2016 to 2019, I worked as an intern in Qiuniuyun, taking charge of front-end development, front-end architecture design and data product research and development. Engaged in desktop software development at XMind from 2019 to 2020, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2019. In April this year, I joined the marketing activity team of the Technology department of Tao Department. Our team is mainly responsible for the landing support of some big promotion activities such as Double 11. The main product is Qianfan. My technology stack is quite diverse, in addition to Web development, there is some back-end development, and data research and artificial intelligence. I have written a book called “Actual Combat ES2015”, a gold digging small book “Based on JavaScript development flexible data applications”, and then interested in my wechat can first add me.

1.2 Personal Experience

What I want to share today is about such a process. The first part is my personal introduction.

It says I have one year of experience, but I’ve been writing code for 10 years. The first programming language I learned was Pascal, and then I learned Basic, C# and so on. In Web development, I started with PHP, and then when I got to the front end, I started with JavaScript, then node. js, CoffeeScript, and now Golang and TypeScript. Mobile knows a little bit about Swift. On the data side, R, Scala, and Python are used a lot.

I’ve “mixed” with the open source community myself, so I’d say I’ve mixed, not stayed. As one of the early adopters of Node.js, I developed frameworks such as WebJS. Also based on the rich application scenario, developed a JS database called MINDB.

1.3 Project Experience

Let me talk about some of my own project experience. I was in charge of front-end architecture design when I was working in Qiuniuyun. First of all, the architecture design and technology selection are the most important, because the front-end project of Qiniu was developed based on Angular. The first task after joining qiniu was to create a new front-end architecture based on React, that is, to define a new technology stack. It also includes an internal UI library for secondary development based on Ant Design, both Mobx and TypeScript. At that time, Qiniuyun also encountered such a demand, but at that time, there was no concept of “micro front end”, which mainly solved the research and development, release and loading mechanism of multiple portals and multiple frameworks under the same site. The main issues were Angular and React, the need to use them on the same page, and how to isolate them.

In terms of products, I did an internal start-up project in Qiuniuyun at that time, which was a data product with the standard GrowingIO and Shence. I was responsible for product design and research and development of the whole project, including back-end and data analysis. I worked in Qiuniuyun as a service company’s internal data warehouse and BI products, which is equivalent to a data analysis platform. Then I came to my second company, XMind. In the software you are using now, I do the outline mode and custom theme editing, and its main technology stack is Vue and Electron.

Join the Technology department of Tao Department

2.1 Interview Preparation

Then tell me to join the tao department of technology after the matter. Why I choose to alibaba, because alibaba is a big platform, large companies have a lot of opportunities, as to why is clean out the inside of the alibaba tao department department, because tao is technology although relatively stable system of a business, but it is not a lack of innovation, there are a lot of opportunities. Then my own interview preparation is a process of self-examination, thinking like the boss. And then the other way, which I think is really important, is to think outside of the way we think as technical people.

2.1.1 Think like a boss

What do you mean, think like a boss? The first point is to list the projects that I have participated in and been responsible for in my previous study and work. For example, what role did you play, whether you were a participant or a director, and then, in as simple a language as possible, describe what you did and what role you played in the project. You need to figure out how you got involved, what you did, what decisions you made, and even how your decisions affected the project. Then it’s important to think about the business implications of the project at the level of your larger team, or even your company, rather than just as a participant.

2.1.2 Example of Seven Niuyun Project

Later, I will take detailed projects as examples, and talk about my last project in Qiniuyun. I just mentioned the internal BI platform. First, it turned out that this project was abandoned. The background of the project was the need for an internal data management platform, and Metabase, an open source form platform, was originally used. Although the original project had been used for nearly two years, my boss said that this platform had some shortcomings in expressiveness and ability, so a new project should be developed to replace it. But the boss was parachuted in and needed a project to back him up. However, it doesn’t matter. It is important to understand the background of the project you are working on. In my project, the decision was made by the technical person in charge of the development of the front and back ends, and the technical station was React and Golang at the back end.

2.1.3 Seven Niuyun Project results

However, there is a problem, that is, many people think that the project I did was abandoned at last. Is this project meaningless and unprofitable? It’s not. The key is whether or not you’ve taken some thought out of the project. For example, in the business area, who are the customers of this project? What exactly do these customers want? Have you investigated the actual application scenarios of this project from the perspective of the customer? In addition, for this project, he already had a plan. Why did he need to make a new one to replace it? It’s something to understand, something to think about.

In terms of technology, first of all, have you considered the cost of learning, the maintainability, and the acceptance of your team members, even at the company level, when you are choosing the models? After the project is completed, someone else may come in and they may not be able to accept or learn the new technology that you have chosen. The second is whether there are new attempts in the process of research and development, such as new selection, new architecture and new ideas. The important thing is whether these technical selection or technological research and development attempts can have some precipitation for themselves and the team, which is very important. There will be a TWO-DIMENSIONAL code on my side. When I leave Qiniuyun at the end of this project, I will write a summary, which is equivalent to my own notes, and finally open to the public.

2.1.4 Jump out of the technical thinking

I’m quoting a quote from bird, the current CTO of Lianjia. “A lot of techies say I don’t like to socialize, I just want to code, I don’t want to do anything other than code,” he says, but is that really a good thing? Is “pure tech” really a positive term? I don’t think so.

2.1.5 Examine yourself

Before the interview, examine how you have grown from your past work experience. For example, if you learn a new skill point, you need to know what the new skill will mean to the project and the company. New concepts like React Hooks, front-end visualization, and microfronds are all the rage right now. What does it mean for your project? What are the values? And then let’s say you’re an architect, you’re involved with a framework, how did that framework evolve, what were the factors that evolved into it?

The good business attributes, probably because you program the boundary of the business, in the face of what is the customer type, it is also possible that your team of some factors need to do a such architecture evolution, or some technical bottlenecks encountered before need to do some breakthrough, and then gave birth to a new architecture, this is a good way. But in many cases there are other negative factors, such as you are completely blind, based on personal enthusiasm, see a new technology and want to try, blindly adjust; Or see a big company, such as Facebook, Google, Alibaba, they released a new architecture, or someone did some sharing, how good their architecture is. Then trying to emulate them, or having technical debt on an old project you or someone else was working on that you need to pay off, are bad directions.

1.6 XMind project analysis

For my first project at XMind, I was responsible for redoing the Outliner outline pattern. Let’s talk about the results first. After my efforts, other colleagues can cut in painlessly (explained below). Let me talk about the background of the project. First of all, the outline mode had great problems in the previous version, both from the code level and the experience level. Basically, it might be difficult to use or very difficult to use, and the maintenance cost was very high. My role was to redesign the technical architecture of the pattern, including rewriting and writing business code. What I did was refactor the outline schema using the ECS architecture. The ECS architecture is commonly used in games. But I would like to explore the external field, of course I have a certain understanding of the ECS architecture. Explore and discover, and use that as an opportunity to try it here.

After I finished developing the architecture, one of my colleagues needed to add a feature to my outline schema. He took a new feature from zero to live without my knowledge or help. I was busy with other things. I didn’t know. Finally, it’s on the perfect line. The architecture I designed can greatly reduce the collaborative cost of everyone, which is very valuable.

2.2 Interview Experience

And then tell me about my interview experience in tao Department. I interviewed for a long time and went through six rounds of interviews. The first two rounds are mainly about some technical research, or in-depth understanding of some technical capabilities. The third one is my current supervisor, which mainly tests how well I fit in with the team. On the fourth side, there was a cross-interview with the leaders of other teams, and the final interview was with HRG and the Leader of our large team, which was mainly to investigate the values and potential.

2.3 Experience of entry

After I joined the company, what impressed me most was our century-old Alibaba, and I had a deeper understanding of Alibaba Group and the story behind it. One of the characteristics of Alibaba is the teacher-student culture. Before I enter the company, a senior will contact you to help you in work or life. Let’s say I’m from out of town, and I get some care and help from them. In addition, my boss is very Nice and does the right thing with the right people. This is something I have felt deeply since I joined the company.

2.4 Suggestions for Candidates

If you want to come to Ali or Tao Department technology Department, I have some suggestions:

  1. It is important to remain sensitive and objective about technology. For example, when new technology comes out, you can pay attention to it, but don’t blindly pursue it. For example, Facebook recently launched Recoil, and there are many new projects from other big companies that you can follow, but don’t blindly follow. You have to think realistically. What is the scene behind the new thing and what is the scene of the author or the company he belongs to, and what is the difference with his own understanding, or what is the difference between the team or company he says, we must think about some of the differences between these, not blindly follow. Think realistically about the scenario behind it and how much value it will add to the project you’re in charge of, rather than just imagining it.
  2. Continue to gain experience in projects other than technology, which may be PM, testing, or other team member roles. For example, we are in the tao department technical team, we often have to communicate with other team members. Because your technology needs to be developed based on business scenarios, not just rocket building, it definitely requires more communication and more meetings. In other words, can the sorting out of some project experience be more concise and intuitive, which requires low-cost and efficient communication methods. Because I don’t think there is a shortage of skilled people in the market, and these soft skills are a bright spot for you to stand out. Just like the above school recruitment to see the potential, social recruitment to see the value. You may not have a great experience coming out of school, but more about your learning ability and development potential. Social recruitment may be based on how much value you can bring to the team, which is a sign of soft power.

3. Book recommendations

I recommend two books, of course, there may be a big difference with our audience, the first book is called “Bayesian Thinking”, I am not trained, I majored in mathematics in college. I think Bayesian thinking is a very good way to think logically about development or thinking about problems. Statistical methods can let us face the decoupling of a problem, the decoupling of requirements, to sort out the idea is a very good method. And it’s like I can understand what a prior probability, a posterior probability is. Another book I recommend is Why, which I haven’t finished yet, but I think is very valuable. It is a book that combines many disciplines, from biology to philosophy to computer science to artificial intelligence, including an interdisciplinary field, and it also exercises our way of thinking. I haven’t finished it yet, but I think it’s excellent.

4. Recruit talent

4.1 Team Introduction

Come and join our team! Our team has participated in the promotion activities such as Double 11. Most of our marketing activity pages on mobile Taobao are probably related to us, so it is a team with great potential. If you are interested, you can add your resume to my wechat or directly send it to my mailbox. Here is a brief introduction of our team, including some content written by our boss, you can have a look.

4.2 Team business and current situation

In addition, our team mainly focuses on two aspects. There are only two projects in total, Ark and Qianfan, which are both marketing campaign platforms. Ark’s words mainly serve the large platform within Alibaba’s economy, mainly from the double 11, 618 and other large-scale marketing activities of some pages set up and launched, covering a lot of marketing fields. Qianfan is a project being developed by my team. It is a platform for foreign marketing activities to serve tens of thousands of “pan-merchants” and hundreds of millions of consumers. It is currently in the incubation stage and has great breakout potential. Welcome to join us.

That’s the end of my sharing.
