The latest iPhone 13 series has impressive camera features, and while most of them are exclusive to the 13 Pro and Pro Max, Apple’s Movie mode is available on all four devices in the series. This feature lets you shoot movies and videos on your iPhone. It makes use of the powerful functions of the A15 bionic chip to allow you to shift focus within the picture and achieve film-style filmmaking!
What is iPhone movie mode
Movie mode is a video recording mode added to the new iPhone 13 series, which comes with all new iPhone 13s and helps you move focus around the screen or anchor it to a moving subject.
What’s particularly fascinating is that it can predict when someone will enter the frame and intelligently focus on them as they appear. In addition, you can even change the focus or adjust the bokeh effect after the video is shot.
This has greatly enhanced the iPhone’s capabilities as a film-making device and created exciting new possibilities for video production, especially on low budgets or with limited resources.
How does movie mode work
According to Apple, the iPhone 13’s Movie mode captures high-quality deep data at 30 frames per second. This allows it to determine the exact distance between the camera and all subjects in the picture. Combined with machine learning from the A15 chip neural engine, the camera can choose which object to focus on and when to apply focus shifts.
Of course, to ensure complete control, you can also manually lock the focus on subjects such as people or things to track them throughout the scene.
How to use Apple’s Movie mode on the iPhone 13
- Open the Camera app on your iPhone 13.
- Cinematic Mode is selected on the left.
- Find your frame and click the Record button. This will allow your iPhone to automatically focus on the person or object in the frame while softening the background.
- The primary focus will be represented by yellow squares, while secondary objects will be represented by white squares.
- While recording in movie mode, you can also tap the screen to change focus.
Even after you finish recording, you can change the focus or depth effect in the video to get it the way you like.
Change focus after shooting in movie mode on iPhone 13
- Open the Photos app on your iPhone and tap the video.
- Click the Edit option at the top.
- Then, click on the theme in the video to change focus as needed.
- Click Finish to save your changes.
What are the limitations of movie mode
While it’s very revolutionary, the movie mode does have some limitations, and that’s that you can’t shoot in 4K. It is currently limited to 1080p (full HD) quality at 30fps.
Second, older iphones don’t support movie mode.
Finally, the cinematic mode has yet to be tested for practical effect and ease of use.
