Introduction: The author of this article will use the sloth Platform, which is co-authored with Janeway’s team, to share in the process of our work, when do we have the need to cooperate? How do you find the right person after you have the need for cooperation? After locking the candidate, how to impress the other party to promote cooperation? After the cooperation talks are concluded, it is time to give full play to our respective strengths, integrate our respective demands, and proceed in a planned and rhythmic manner.

The introduction
We don’t say things that arouse their altruism, we say things that arouse their selfishness. Instead of saying we need something, we say it’s good for them. The Wealth of Nations (PART 1)
When I saw the above sentence, I felt deeply; No matter my own experience or the experience shared by my colleagues, we all use the above theory to guide our practice in the process of communication and cooperation. Fortunately, some good cooperation cases have also been promoted.
Next, I will combine my own and my colleagues’ cases to share:
- In the process of work, when do we have the need for cooperation?
- How do you find the right person after you have the need for cooperation?
- After locking the candidate, how to impress the other party to promote cooperation?
- After the cooperation talks are concluded, it is time to give full play to our respective strengths, integrate our respective demands, and proceed in a planned and rhythmic manner.
I’m going to start by sharing a case study I worked with Janeway’s team on the Sloth Platform.
I. Motivation for Cooperation
1. Ask for reasons for cooperation
In most cases, it is because we have our own demands (to accomplish something), but we cannot accomplish it independently at present (possibly due to time/professional/resource constraints). One solution is: I will continue to participate in this matter, and I need to find the right people to cooperate with me to ensure that they can give full play to their advantages and finish this matter more efficiently within the effective time, so as to meet their demands.
2 [Case Sharing]
November 2019, IN the business domain I follow up, the governance of slow SQL has been carried out for less than a year. Through the practice in the domain, I have verified the effectiveness of the governance scheme of “prevention first, governance second” adopted at that time. At the same time, we also found that the team also had slow SQL problems through data analysis. So how can this governance solution in the domain be extended to the team?
At that time, we faced the following difficulties:
- High requirements for professional knowledge, difficult landing
- Manpower input is large, and efficiency is urgently needed
- The team needs to land within the desired time
The solution that came to mind was:
- First, refine the methodology
- Then, through the tool platform, experience and expertise are encapsulated
- Finally, the team adopts the way of horizontal governance to promote, and each domain can take advantage of the tool platform to simply land
The challenge for me then became: to build such a tool platform; With limited time and resources at the time, I couldn’t achieve my goals on my own.
Then my problem becomes: I need to find the right students to cooperate with me and build such a tool platform efficiently within a limited time.
Find the right partner
1. Make clear the demands of the partners
My request for cooperation is very clear. I need to find someone to cooperate with to complete the construction of a slow SQL governance platform in the shortest possible time. Therefore, the other party needs to have the ability to build this platform together, and we have the same goal in a short period of time, and can achieve high input of resources in a short period of time.
2. Analyze and find suitable partners
Cooperation appeal is clear, and then it is to dig around the possible potential cooperation object. This potential partner can be my development classmates, students with high demands for slow SQL governance in other teams, or students in performance teams. Since my appeal is the expectation that in a short period of time, everyone can be highly invested in this thing, so I can list these specific appeals to lock the partner with high matching degree.
At that time, the slow SQL campaign was also launched at the group level, so the first thing that came to my mind was Janeway, the person in charge of the slow SQL campaign, and Janeway was also the person in charge of the performance team. Besides, we were both in a big team and we knew each other originally, so we were ideal partners. Miyun is a classmate of the efficiency team, has rich database experience, may be interested in building a slow SQL governance platform, is the perfect partner.
Impress each other and promote cooperation intention
1 Instead of saying you need something, say it’s good for them
Once you’ve identified a potential partner, the next step is to think about how you can impress them into working together as a common goal.
- First of all, put yourself into the other person’s identity and position to think, what is the value of this event to the other person?
- Second, what can I do to help them? Why should they choose me as their partner?
- Finally, how do you get the other person to consider this as a high priority?
2. How can we encourage each other to prioritize cooperation items
The goal of cooperation is unity, analyze the current opportunities for the project together, and consider what you can provide from your own dimension as much as possible. For example, if the platform tools were produced at that time, our business line would push all domains to try them out and give feedback in time. We could also coordinate and upgrade. This is a very valuable resource and opportunity for the whole cooperation project, so we will try to adjust the priority of the cooperation project to a higher level for the unified goal.
We agreed on the cooperation in the first meeting, and we both started to prepare immediately. In the second meeting, we started to discuss the plans and plans. The cooperation was extremely efficient.
Cooperation – each gets what he needs and accomplishes each other
After more than 3 months of cooperation, we officially launched “Sloth Platform” on March 18, 2020.03.18.
Five cases of promoting cooperation
1 spot
My product is responsible for POS hardware, and he shared a case of barcode scale. There are many bar code scales to be connected, and each bar code scale has its own protocol. If our POS needs to support different types of bar code scales, we need to modify our business APP to add protocol adaptation each time we connect a new bar code scale. If the need to adapt the bar code scale is increasing, there is a kind of endless sense of both sight, too painful.
How did he solve for 2?
Good, directly towards the ultimate solution to consider: the world bar code scale with the same standard protocol.
Having a goal, how did he achieve it?
The first is to understand all the relevant roles, all the factors that can be leveraged are also considered, and then start to break.
- To make a standard agreement, an authority was needed, so he first approached Alibaba’s standards committee; This is a good thing to address a sore point in the industry, so the standards committee is very willing to work on this.
- Mainstream enterprises with POS business have suffered from it for a long time. Someone is willing to take the lead to do this, why not?
- Mainstream production of bar code scale manufacturers, this part of the resistance is relatively large, unified standard agreement, this part is really moved to the interests of manufacturers. Therefore, he adopted the strategy of breaking down one by one. At the same time, he could also analyze the advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of manufacturers and communicate well. Finally, he talked about all of them.

5 My Feelings
After listening to this story, I think it is the best case of “we don’t say we need, but say it is good for them”.
I was also amazed at how well connected he was. How did he find so many key principals to communicate with?
After expressing his admiration, HE still wanted to know how he did it. He said: In the POS circle, you will also know some people, and then you will find the right person step by step through the people you know. Finally hope to have the opportunity to learn from more people!
