Huawei consumer business continues to grow steadily
In 2010, Huawei sold 3 million phones. Eight years later, that number increased 68 times.
Huawei’s shipments of tablets, PCS and wearable devices have also seen healthy and rapid growth.
Born, connected to the future
“Hongmeng OS connects everything and opens a huge market of trillions. To choose Hongmeng is to choose the future,” said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei consumer Business. “Huawei has been committed to the underlying technology innovation including chips and OS for a long time, leaving complexity to itself and simplicity to developers.”
Hongmeng OS will be open source to developers around the world. At the same time, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) is fully open, enabling developers around the world to quickly access the HMS ecosystem and realize ecological sharing.
Four technical features of Hongmeng OS
Hongmeng OS is designed to meet the high standard of connection requirements for intelligent experience in all scenarios. For this purpose, Huawei proposes four system solutions featuring four features.
I. The distributed architecture is first used for terminal OPERATING systems
Achieve seamless collaborative experience across terminals
The “distributed OS architecture” and “distributed soft bus technology” of Hongmon OS shield the application developers from the difficulty of realizing the underlying technology of the corresponding distributed application through the four capabilities of public communication platform, distributed data management, distributed capacity scheduling and virtual peripherals.
It enables developers to focus on their own business logic and develop cross-terminal distributed applications as if they were developing the same terminal. It also enables end consumers to enjoy the seamless experience brought by powerful cross-terminal business collaboration for each usage scenario.
Ii. Identify delay engines and high-performance IPC technologies
Implementation systems are inherently smooth
In order to meet the new requirements of OS in the intelligent era of all scenarios where everything is connected, Hongmon OS decouples hardware capabilities from terminals, connects different terminals through distributed soft bus, and enables applications to easily call hardware peripherals of other terminals, bringing consumers seamless collaborative experience across terminals.
Iii. Rebuild the trusted security of terminal devices based on microkernel architecture
Hongmeng OS uses a new microkernel design, with stronger security features and low latency and other characteristics.
Iv. Support one development through a unified IDE
Multi-terminal deployment enables cross-terminal ecological sharing
At the same time, Hongmeng OS is equipped with a unified IDE (integrated development tool) for multi-terminal development, which can support developers to achieve a development, multi-terminal deployment, and finally achieve cross-terminal ecological sharing.
V. Developer plan and ecological construction
Huawei also announced the evolution roadmap of the Hongmeng kernel and OS, and will take the lead in using Hongmeng OS 1.0 in the smart screen products released this year. In the next three years, in addition to improving relevant technologies, Hongmeng OS will be gradually applied in wearable, smart screen, vehicle and other smart devices.
