Hi, I’m G.
The world’s oldest writing, dating back to 3200 BC, is the “cuneiform script” found in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
The structure of the characters is pictographic, and most of them are depicted on clay tablets. At the time, it was mainly used by sumerians to keep accounts of daily life.
With the change of history and the evolution of civilization, nowadays fonts widely spread in the society emphasize more on being simple and easy to remember or highlighting personality.
GitHubDaily’s previous open source projects also contain useful and interesting fonts and font conversion tools.
Their unified feature is free and open source, commercially available.
Today, I took a moment to share with you some of the most beautiful open source fonts and tools available.
Xia Biao WenKai (LXGW WenKai)
Xia Wen Kai takes its name from wang Bo’s famous parallel prose preface to Teng Wang Ge – “Sunset clouds and lone ducks fly together, autumn waters and sky are the same color”.
In December 2020, FONTWORKS opened seven open source Fonts on GitHub, among which the most popular font is its “Klee” font.
This font is a combination of song style and regular script style, hard yet rounded:
Inspired by the font, a Chinese developer began trying to complete the simple and common characters in The Japanese font in January 2021.
After a period of update and adjustment, “Xia Wen Kai” has been opened on GitHub and enriched the regular script category of Chinese open source fonts.

A total of 13,000 Chinese characters have been updated, and are open to individual users or companies for free to share.
McDonalds Fries Font
After that, let’s take a look at the McDonalds Fries Font, which has been open-source by one of the company’s licensed operators.
Full of chips and ketchup design style:
The font works in Illustrator, Photoshop, Keynote, Sketch, and more.
Fonts are free and open source, but they need to be labeled for commercial use.

If you still don’t like Handwriting Synthesis, try the Handwriting Synthesis tool.
Its main function is to use the program to quickly generate a handwriting font of their own
GitHub:github.com/sjvasquez/h…
The idea of this project began With a paper published by Alex Graves in 2013: Generating Sequences With Recurrent Neural Networks.
After the paper was published, Sean Vasquez, a student at MIT, put out a Demo based on Tensorflow.js.
If you’re interested, you can try it out for yourself.

Of course, the font generation process is still a bit rough and the functionality it offers is limited.
So, soon after Handwriting Synthesis was published, Saurabh Daware, an Indian college student, spent three hours writing another conversion tool for Handwriting: Text to Handwriting.

Happily, it also supports custom Chinese fonts!
The sample picture below, on the left is the handwriting conversion effect of the first quotation in this article; On the right is the setting interface of the tool:

If you want to use this tool to generate your own handwriting font, just Upload your own handwriting under “Upload your handwriting font”.
In addition, you can customize the font size, ink color, page size, font spacing, paper background and other attributes.
Once you’re done, click “Generate Image” to export the handwritten font as an Image.
If the student party uses this method to generate homework, it can really achieve the effect of unconvincing…
The above is the open source project to share with you today.
