What is Git

Git is a free, open source distributed version control system that can handle project version management from the very small to the very large efficiently and quickly.

Different from the common version control tools such as CVS and Subversion, it adopts the way of distributed version library without the support of server-side software, which makes the source code release and communication extremely convenient. Git is fast, but the best part is its ability to merge and trace.

Git was originally an open source version control software developed by Linus Torvalds to help manage Linux kernel source code instead of BitKeeper.
