As dbAs, you’ve probably heard of MongoDB, or you’re using it, but how many of you know where MongoDB comes from?

In English, ‘Mango’ is Mango, and ‘Mongo’ is the middle part of humongous, which means’ huge ‘in English. So MongoDB can be translated as “giant database” or, more elegantly, “massive database.”

When MongoDB started, the founders had nothing to do with MongoDB as a product: they wanted to build a cloud computing service and build it out of open source stuff. Unfortunately, several second-time entrepreneurs did not find anything satisfactory in the open source community.

So, with the dream of building a great cloud computing service, they decided to take a break and build a database they were happy with. This database became known as MongoDB.

The founders’ dream was to create a database that was completely different from the relational databases of the past, with massive databases, models that were extremely flexible and suitable for programmers.

Maybe people with great ideals make great products. MongoDB is destined to be a unique and historic product.

The 2019 MongoDB Chinese Community year-end gala was successfully concluded in Shenzhen recently. This event includes cloud service special session, ecological technology special session and MongoDB special session 10+ Daniel’s on-site sharing.
