preface
In recent years, the concept of industrial Internet is very hot, bloggers as industrial Internet line practitioners, to bring you a preliminary understanding of what is the industrial Internet.
Traditional industries
Before talking about industrial Internet, first give you popular science under what is industry. Industry is the production of modern means of labor department, it determines the speed of national economy modernization, scale and level, in the contemporary world national economy plays a leading role.
The origin of industry
In the 18th century, the Industrial revolution appeared in Britain, which gradually transformed the original workshop handicraft industry based on manual technology into machine industry. Only then did industry finally separate from agriculture and become an independent material production sector.

China’s industrial output
There are three main industries in our country: agriculture, industry and service.
- Primary industry: agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery (excluding professional and auxiliary activities of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery).
- Secondary industries: mining (excluding mining professional and auxiliary activities), manufacturing (excluding metal products, machinery and equipment repair), electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply, construction. (The secondary industry, except the construction industry, belongs to the industrial category)
- The tertiary industry, namely the service industry, refers to other industries except the primary and secondary industries.
The relationship between the three industries — mutual dependence and restriction:
- The primary industry lays the foundation for the secondary and tertiary industries.
- The secondary industry is the core of the three major industries and has a driving effect on the primary industry.
- The primary and secondary industries create conditions for the tertiary industry, and the development of the tertiary industry promotes the progress of the primary and secondary industries.

Industrial classification of China
The current Industrial Classification of The National Economy in China is revised according to the fourth edition of ISIC and implemented in 2012. The industrial sector is divided into mining, manufacturing, electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply, 41 major industries, 201 medium industries and 581 small industries.
In addition to the specific industry classification of the National Bureau of Statistics, industry can also be divided into three different types according to the mode of production: process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing and hybrid manufacturing.
- Process manufacturing: refers to the generation process of value-added production through separation, mixing, molding or chemical reaction. The production process is generally continuous or batch, requiring strict process control and safety performance measures. Typical process manufacturing industries: cement, electric power, petrochemical, metallurgy, food, medicine, etc.
- Discrete manufacturing: under the guidance of the production process plan, multiple parts are processed and assembled into the final product through a series of discontinuous processes. Typical discrete manufacturing industries: rockets, aircraft, automobiles, ships, electronic equipment, machinery, clothing, etc.
- Hybrid manufacturing: refers to the complex production mode with both continuous production process and discrete generation process. It is a kind of production mode with universal significance in modern production.
In general industrial enterprises, both process production and discrete production process (i.e., hybrid manufacturing) exist at the same time, but the corresponding production process will have a bias in the total production scale of the enterprise, and the industry of the enterprise can be divided according to the bias.
Traditional industrial systems are layered
The traditional industrial enterprise system is generally divided into 5 layers, from bottom to top:Site equipment layer, site control layer, process monitoring layer, production management layer, enterprise resource layer.
- Field equipment layer: provides machines manufactured in the factory site, including sensors, actuators, protective devices, etc.
- Field control layer: control the production process through PLC, DCS control unit and RTU.
- Process monitoring layer: process parameters are collected and monitored by distributed SCADA system, and human-computer interaction is realized by HMI system.
- Production management (MES) : to provide enterprises with manufacturing data management, scheduling management, production scheduling management and other management modules.
- Enterprise resource layer (ERP) : provides decision-making means for enterprise decision makers and employees. Including enterprise resources related financial, assets, human resources and other management systems.
