How does it work
Fine focus darkens, blurs and fades distracting elements on your desktop, giving you a more elegant, cinematic environment where you can fine-tune focus and enhance your workflow.
However, when you need them, just hover over them and they brighten up and become sharp again and ready to use. When you place the new window first, it will be highlighted, and the previous window will quietly darken, blur, or fade out in the background. Finer Focus can be perfectly combined with the following features:
- Mojave’s dynamic desktop
- space
- exposed
- Full screen window
- More screen
- Dark patterns in the Mojave Desert
- Zoom and standard retina display resolution
- Enables or disables magnification for all base sizes and orientations
- Notification center
- Customize desktop images

With Finer Focus, you can control the color and amount of darkening. You can choose how much blur and fade in and out, as well as how much.
First browse through the offered themes, then select each theme from the Finer Focus menu bar icon to view the favorite theme.
If the theme works for you as-is, great. If not, you can customize it to your liking.

In Settings, you can also optimize the Finer Focus itself for various features. Click on the Options TAB:
Speed You can specify the speed at which you want Finer Focus to react to the Mac environment. This controls how quickly the elements darken, blur, and fade. Display Sometimes you want Finer Focus to reveal all the elements of the Mac, such as the Finder desktop being an active window, or dragging and dropping between Windows. For these (and other) occasions, you can control when and how Finer is displayed.
The mouse
When you move the mouse away from the front window where the Finer Focus is being used, you can make the Finer Focus look clearer.
By default, this setting is the minimum display and therefore has no effect. However, this is useful if the subject is very dark. When you hover over the dark area, Finer Focus shows the element behind it.
Active desktop
You can indicate the number to display when you set the Finder desktop to an active window.
The keyboard
For times that you want to manually display, Finer Focus can be configured to do so when CapsLock is enabled or the Option key is held down. You can also indicate how much to reveal in these cases.
Crystal clear
If you want to display for a long time, you can simply select the “Crystal Clear” theme, which is equivalent to turning off “finer focus”.
