Today is a memorable day in the open source front end community. The reason for this is that the first framework in the front end, React, put up a banner that basically said, support Ukraine, provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, put yourself on the moral high ground, no dirty words, plus some weird output. As a developer, whether you support Russia or Ukraine on Twitter is a matter of personal opinion. However, the React team brought politics directly into the open source project, and you remained silent when the US bombed Syria, etc. Such a dual target operation caused many Chinese developers to rush into the React issue and make various angry comments github.com/facebook/re…
First of all, I don’t like React. I support the author of Vue, who opposes the war on Twitter. However, the rejection of Vue as an open source project is political, which is higher than the React team
Github’s feedback below uses racist and politically correct insults to propose banning Russian projectsGithub.com/github/feed…
If you really think that punishing the entire population for the actions of their leaders will bring peace, then I suggest you try reading some history: see how successful the Treaty of Versailles was. If you think cutting off communication with all of a country’s people will bring peace and improve the country’s politics, then look at North Korea and judge how healthy their policy of isolation is. There is war and people are suffering – please don’t use this as an excuse to judge hatred for yourself.
If GitHub should do anything, it should be by showing support for the Ukrainian people — by letting anyone who visits GitHub see how bad the war is. Not the other way around: isolating all Russians from the opinions of the rest of the world.
To stand in the moral high ground, without dirty words, plus the output of the whole audience, compared to our full screen of small cute is a bit low
But now Github has started to block these comments, and it’s bullshit that technology knows no borders. You have the ability to block the periodic table invented by Russia, or radio, etc. Personally, I’m against bringing remediation into open source projects, otherwise I can only hint at it
