People in the village no longer needed to wait for the original cake shop, nor did they have to hurry to buy cakes before dinner. They all patronize this young new cake shop. The young bakery business crushed the old bakery. The old bakery owner, in order to survive, also began to get up early and go to bed late, and did not rest at noon. He even opened earlier and closed later. In the small village of 365 people, the total cake demand has not changed, and still one person buys cakes on average every day. But the old baker, more tired than ever, made half as much money, and his vicious rivalry with the young baker had just begun.

The life became more and more bitter, the income became lower and lower, and the labor became more and more devalued.

Without further ado, let’s go back to the story. The biggest problem with this story is that the bakery only sells cakes, and there is only one kind of cake, and everyone has to buy a cake exactly on the day of their birthday as it is legally required.
Keep in mind that markets are complex. There has never been such a homogeneity. There has never been a cake shop that only sells cakes, nor has there been a rule that villagers must eat only one cake on their birthdays. The story resonates because it’s so self-centered, can a cake shop owner skip a hot pot meal and cause the economic decline of a hot pot restaurant?

Can you win by matching opening hours?

Because the fundamental reason is not that the young store manager is open longer than him, but that the young store manager is more considerate to the villagers, let everyone experience happiness. What about the old manager? He can open a new track, he can fight who can make the best, who can make the best, who can only sell cakes in the bakery? Don’t the buns smell good? Tired of cream cakes. What about matcha cakes? All kinds of cookies, pastries, why not make them? Why not have the whole village buy cookies every day, in addition to cake? Not only will business immediately pick up, but the happiness of the village will soar. And there is a very obvious problem here, the old shop long decades of craft, with what was the new minute to catch up? Is that possible? Perhaps true possibility, but this is also because the old shop long for decades did not go to improve the evil fruit of the craft, monopoly for a long time, do not think of progress. The whole village usually have no other choice, how to talk about happiness?
And the final result is not as tragic as the end of the story. It is more likely that the two cake shops engaged in healthy competition, producing varied and delicious pastries that encouraged all the villagers to buy, increasing income and productivity.
But there’s a fundamental problem:
