Every day we work with developers to make Google Play a safe, reliable and fluid experience for everyone, and to ensure that developers can build sustainable businesses here. In September of last year, we laid out our payment policy with a clear timeline for developers to adopt Google Play’s payment system. While the majority of developers already comply with this policy, we are aware that some developers using other billing systems may need to make changes to their existing apps, and we have provided a year to implement updates in this case.
Many of our partners have been progressing steadily towards the previously given deadline of September 30th. However, we continue to hear feedback from developers around the world about the difficulties they have encountered over the past year, especially for those who are still in the affected areas of the global pandemic.
After careful consideration of feedback from developers of various team sizes, we are offering developers the option to apply for a six-month extension to extend the payment policy compliance deadline to March 31, 2022. Starting July 22, developers can apply for an extension through the Help center, and we will review each application and respond as soon as possible.
