I’ve always wanted a Mac as my workhorse. The M1 Macbook AIr has been part of my digital acquisition plan since November’s launch, when it was bombarded with specs.
I had been using A Windows laptop all my life and was used to its logic. Many friends who use Mac often talk about the advantages of macOS, which makes me more curious about macOS.
I’ve had my hands on it for a while now, and I’m going to talk about it from the perspective of a digital enthusiast who has never used a Mac before.
As a white user, I’m familiar with the macOS UI — the long menu bar and skeuomorphic Dock are iconic features. In the process of using it, I found that some of the operation logic is different from WIndows, such as the window “three buttons” and the way to install software and so on.
One difference that particularly struck me was when I used an App, the left side of the menu bar at the top became the function button of the App at the top — something I had never experienced on Windows 10, and am still getting used to.
Function buttons that are different from Windows are another thing I didn’t get used to when I first started using the MacBook: The Ctrl key on Windows is equivalent to the macOS Command key, while the Alt key on Windows is equivalent to the macOS Option key. The position of the Command keys is always “awkward” when doing things like copy and paste.
Despite the painful “transition,” some of macOS’s interactions always struck me as a more human system than Windows.
For example, to uninstall software, you only need to go to “Visit” – “application”, and drag the software that is not needed directly to the “waste paper basket”; There are clearly arranged “boot platform” and “visit” each folder; Spotlight can even calculate numerical or monetary interest rates……
Windows wants to do the above…… Don’t say, are tears.
Since I haven’t been around long enough, I can’t accurately describe and document these features. However, in use, the overall impression of macOS interaction was one ** “Wow, it can do that” **.
I think these excellent details are one of the reasons why macOS is so well received.
The trackpad — it used to work that way
Despite the improved system-level support for trackpad gestures in Windows 10 over the years, Windows users rarely use trackpads — myself included, I almost never use a Trackpad on a Windows laptop, simply because it’s “totally unusable.”
Mac users have always been much more tolerant of trackpads than WIndows users, so I wonder if the MacBook’s trackpad actually works. Despite this, I asserted that I would never get used to using the trackpad on my computer, which proved to be a slap in the face.
My first impression of the trackpad was that the addition of Force Touch makes the press feel crisp and can be done anywhere on the whole trackpad. The sheer size of the trackpad, combined with easy-to-use gestures, makes for a great trackpad experience.
After a short period of use, I quickly got used to the gestures on the MacBook trackpad, and my mouse time plummeted, which surprised me in fact. I even turned to the trackpad when I was using a Windows laptop, and the MacBook trackpad was much easier to use and more accurate than the Windows camp.
M1 chip: fast and durable
The MacBook AIr’s battery life is not as long as the MacBook Pro’s 20 hours, but it is 50 percent longer than its predecessor’s 18 hours without improving the battery capacity. For a word worker like me, there is no more fascinating parameter than the battery life of a laptop.
Of course, 18 hours is just the highest score on the test in the case of watching the video. According to the author’s daily tests, the fully charged MacBook AIr starts to be used at 9 am for daily operations including web browsing, text input and video watching. The screen brightness is set to 200 nits (50%), and the battery is still about 20% until 6 PM. As long as you don’t do heavy work, you can take it out and use it for a day without charging.
In addition, the fan-less design of the MacBook AIr makes it completely insensitive to daily work and keeps it cool. I also used clipping software to clip some 1080P movies, which were exported very quickly and didn’t get hotter. However, I have not tried to export the 4K resolution of the movie, and I will give you feedback when I have the opportunity.
The quick wake up feature of the M1 chip was also mentioned. Since I haven’t used any other Macs, I can’t compare the difference. However, the MacBook AIr has the same response speed as the iPhone, which is quite easy for me, who is used to switching on and off when using Windows laptop.
The last word
Once I got my hands on the MacBook AIr and actually used it, as a macOS newbie, I was constantly amazed by small surprises. Rumors abound that Apple will release the next generation of Apple Silicon chips this year, and that the base MacBook AIr will only get stronger in the future. If you’re looking for a well-built, light office laptop with long battery life and Windows is more than just a necessity, the basic MacBook AIr is worth buying. (From macZ.com)
