Conflux mining test activity began, community friends often mentioned such a question: what is the meaning of various “nodes” in Conflux, today I will explain to you.

Boot Node:

Boot Node is the first Node to be connected when a Node is started. It also obtains information about other nodes from the Boot Node and connects to more nodes. Currently, Boot Nodes are mainly provided by the Conflux Foundation, and the community can also provide more Boot Nodes.

Archive Node:

The Archive Node stores all historical block data in the Conflux network, and therefore stores a large data ratio. During Archive Node mining, data synchronization takes a long time and occupies large storage space.

Conflux will allow anyone to run an Archive Node, but Archive Node has high requirements on storage. Taking the current network parameters of Conflux as an example, 2 blocks are generated per second on average, and the size limit of each block is about 600KB. Then, under full load, the throughput is 1.2MB in a second, about 100GB in a day, and 30TB of new transaction history data can be added every year. In the future decentralized Conflux network, the Conflux Foundation and the community jointly maintain several archive nodes.

Full Node:

It is not particularly difficult to store 30TB data in enterprise and industrial applications. According to the current market price, three 10TB hard disks only cost 5000-7000 yuan. But to maximize decentralization, Conflux must minimize the cost of participating in consensus. In order to lower the threshold for participating in the consensus, Conflux limited the minimum operating configuration of the Full Node to that of mainstream home desktops in 2019 during development. Therefore, we recommend the Full Node mining test for this mining test.

In contrast to an Archive Node, a Full Node stores only the block headers for blocks before Checkpoint, but does not store specific transaction information within the block. The block storage mode after Checkpoint is the same as that of Archive Node. The time required for data synchronization in the Full Node is shorter than that in the Archive Node and occupies less space.

Light Node:

A Light Node stores only the header for all blocks. Light nodes do not participate in mining and can verify data in the Conflux network.

Trust Node:

The concept of Trustnode in Conflux is relative, we can say that one node is the Trustnode of another node. A node can be a Trustnode of other nodes if it proactively connects to other nodes and maintains long-term stable connections (over 72 hours). (Tutorial reference: juejin.cn/post/684490…) ;

For example, if node A connects to node B and maintains A stable connection for more than 72 hours, node A becomes the Trustnode of node B. Node B broadcasts the IP address of node A for more nodes to connect to and improve network security.
