Abstract:

Recently, at Cloud Foundry Summit 2018, Abby Kearns, Executive Director of The Foundation, announced that Ali Cloud has become the only public Cloud infrastructure provider of Cloud Foundry platform in China: “Chinese enterprises will get a better experience with Cloud Foundry and AliYun.”

Ali Cloud is committed to providing customers with a variety of choices

Cloud Foundry has become a gold member of the Cloud Foundry Foundation, according to the foundation’s website. Cloud Foundry Foundation wrote: “The world’s fastest growing Cloud service company has become a gold member of Cloud Foundry Foundation, opening up China and the wider market for Cloud Foundry.”

Cloud Foundry, launched in 2011, is a popular open source project in the Cloud native space. It gives developers the freedom to choose cloud platforms, development frameworks, and application services.

“As the industry’s first open source PaaS platform, Cloud Foundry is available in multiple clouds, multiple frameworks and multiple languages,” said Tang Hong, chief architect of Ali Cloud. “Ali Cloud is committed to providing customers with multiple choices and remains committed to contributing to the open source community.”

Currently, users can install and deploy Cloud Foundry on AliYun and invoke IaaS Cloud service resources through the Cloud Provider Interface (CPI) Interface. Access CloudFoundry Application Runtime (CFAR) and CloudFoundry Container Runtime (CFCR) loads, The latter is based on Kubernetes and BOSH technology and is the core component of the platform supporting container architecture. Alicloud’s CPI adaptation development project code (bosh-alicloud-cpi-release) has also been open source on GitHub and accepted by CloudFoundry community.

In an era of increasing reliance on cloud computing, companies will consider a cloud model for geographic reasons, business needs, diversity or historical reasons. To give users more freedom of choice, Ali Cloud integrates Cloud Foundry, Terraform, Kubernetes, Moby, Ansible, Chef, Open Service Broker API and other Open source community standard multi-cloud technologies.

The support for Open ServiceBroker API in alibaba Cloud’s Kubernetes service continues to connect Cloud Foundry/Kubernetes ecosystem to alibaba Cloud, and several domestic and international customers have benefited from this.

Alibaba has been deeply involved in the open source community

In addition to Cloud Foundry, ali Cloud has partnered with Chef, Docker, GitHub, RedHat, SUSE and other open source technology companies.

While compatible with mainstream open source technology standards in the community, Alibaba has been deeply involved in the construction of open source community and actively contributed to the development of IT technology. Since 2011, alibaba has contributed more than 150 open source projects, several of which have exceeded 10,000 star. According to GitHub’s 2017 stats, Alibaba is the only Chinese company to make it onto GitHub’s top contributors list.

These open source projects covers variety, front-end interaction, developing infrastructure, distributed service governance framework, message middleware, database, container technology, Internet operating system and development regulations, etc., and tencent, baidu, Meituan, drops, millet, and other Internet companies and 360 industrial and commercial bank of China life, and traditional companies use unionpay, haier, kingdee, etc.

Ali cloud products compatible open source to increase enterprise features

Aliyun’s products combine open source standards with enterprise industrial-level requirements, enhancing the guarantee and promise of reliability, performance, security and ease of use.

Take Redis as an example. At present, 90% of Chinese Internet companies rely on Redis to support users’ high concurrent access, and 80% of Chinese live video websites use The Redis version of AliYun cloud database. Many functions of the product are improved in various customer scenarios, such as dual-system hot backup, persistence, and same-city DISASTER recovery. Support cluster edition, high-performance hardware, binglog-based replication without fork; VPC networks, strong password authentication, DDoS attacks, and SSL encryption; Performance monitoring, threshold alarm, high-frequency operation, data management, etc.

For example, compared with self-built Kubernetes cluster, Ali Cloud Kubernetes service through the global Kubernetes consistency certification, seamless integration of Ali cloud computing, network and storage capabilities, to provide enterprise-level security, upgrade and operation and maintenance. It supports GPU instances, bare-metal servers, and high-availability clusters across AZs. High-performance VPC/ENI network plug-in improves network performance by 20%. It supports automatic log collection of 100,000 QPS, multi-region clustering and cluster federal management, and supports grayscale publishing, blue-green publishing, and one-click publishing.
