Abstract: In order to further understand and grasp the status quo and future development trend of DevOps in China, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), relying on cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, jointly launched the “2021 DevOps Status Survey in China” with more than 40 enterprises including Huawei Cloud DevCloud.

Recently, the “China Internet Conference 2021 – Digital Governance Forum” held by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) was successfully held in Beijing National Convention Center. At the conference, the Governance and Audit Department of the Institute of Cloud Computing and Big Data of China Information and Communication Institute released and interpreted the Current Situation of DevOps in China (2021).
In order to further understand the current situation and future development trend of DevOps in China, Relying on the Cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), together with more than 40 enterprises including Huawei Cloud DevCloud, jointly launched the “2021 DevOps Status Survey in China”.
Enterprises participating in this survey include the Internet, technology, telecommunications, finance, manufacturing, education, consulting and service, and retail industries, focusing on the current situation of DevOps practice maturity in China, the current situation of DevOps transformation, the future development of DevOps, and the demand of enterprises for policies/qualifications, etc. A total of 1862 valid questionnaires were collected.

Agile has become the mainstream r&d model
The survey results show that Agile has become the mainstream research and development mode of software development. More than half of enterprises have learned or practiced Scrum or Kanban. 85.16% of enterprises chose continuous integration. However, only 30% of enterprises have a unified work item management system, and the ability to visualize the change life cycle and analyze the whole process data needs to be improved, mainly reflecting change management.
Huawei Cloud DevCloud provides an end-to-end DevOps implementation framework to meet agile requirements. Pay more attention to safety
In terms of security, enterprises pay attention to code security, security testing and vulnerability scanning, the security of third-party open source libraries, design compliance with security standards and norms and other security issues, external threats and attacks and personal information protection are also paid attention by enterprises. According to the survey results, nearly 50 percent of enterprises have professional security teams, up 10 percent from last year; More than 50% of businesses try DevSecOps; Enterprise automated security testing continues to evolve to cover the entire process, helping enterprises identify problems early and avoid security risks.
Based on the strong demand for security and DevSecOps, Huawei Cloud is gradually spreading its 20-year deep security capabilities through cloud services, so that more enterprises can share Huawei’s advanced concepts and technical practices on security. Huawei Cloud DevCloud implements the concept of DevSecOps through standardization, methodology and automated security services in every aspect of DevOps, such as security framework and coding specifications in the application creation stage, code inspection embedded with IDE plug-ins, etc.
The state of DevOps transformation
Improving R&D efficiency, product quality, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction are the four key factors that companies can use to determine the success of the DevOps transformation. Many enterprises use various methods to enable DevOps transformation, such as introducing training and senior management promotion. However, there are still many problems in the process of DevOps transformation. There are three main problems:
1. The project team is too busy to make DevOps improvements
According to the survey, 29.48% of enterprise project teams have too much work to make DevOps improvements, up 4.02% from a year ago.
2. Lack of experts in relevant fields
29.05% of companies lack DevOps expertise, resulting in slow progress and flat year-over-year.
3. No measurement system for self-driven improvement across organizational areas has been developed
The results showed that 15.82% of enterprises defined metrics at all stages of the development life cycle, but only within the department; 14.50% of enterprises establish cross-organizational metrics and measure comprehensive dimensions across domains. Only 21.89% of enterprises did not define metrics.
Companies are increasingly paying attention to DevOps capability maturity assessments. According to the survey, 63.64% of respondents were interested in the DevOps capability maturity assessment, up nearly 10% from 2020.
