I have the honor to upgrade my Huawei P40 to Hongmeng OS for the first time, and this article will share with you the experience of using it.

Continuous user operation habits, no need to learn

As an average user, Hongmon OS doesn’t make me feel different from EMUI. Although Hongmon OS adopts the design concept of full-scene distributed, it does not affect the operation logic on a single device. In addition, in order to cater to the market, Hongmon OS is compatible with Android applications, and the overall experience is similar to Android. At present, mobile users have developed their habits, and no manufacturer is going to design a set of operation logic for users to learn again, let alone Android and iOS can learn from each other. Therefore, we should be more concerned about the fluidity and security of Hongmon OS 2.0.

After upgrading the Hongmon OS, the boot screen is no longer Android, but HarmonyOS is displayed. This boot animation is still pretty simple, pretty people like.

Users who used EMUI11 before do not need to adapt to it. After upgrading hongmun OS, many operating habits have not changed, but in terms of smoothness, I feel that it does surpass android. After all, this is a system that huawei has been building since 2016, and it’s already performed well in open beta, with around 1GB less memory than EMUI11, and no lag after installing a large number of apps. It looks like HarmonyOS 2.0 has optimized the underlying hardware for huawei phones. Look forward to seeing how HarmonyOS 2.0 performs on other brands of phones.

Smooth motion effect, seamless experience

The animation effect is also greatly improved, and the experience is natural and smooth, which is completely close to my iOS14 level. Because it is an open source system, capable users can also customize their own themes.

In EMUI11 before, we could compose multiple applications into folders, but each time we opened the application, we had to open the folder before continuing the operation. In Hongmeng System 2.0, I found that when I combined the folders for the first time, there would be a corresponding prompt. When I held down the folder, there was an option of “Display as a large folder” in the call menu. The large folder takes up three more icon Spaces than the original, but you can directly manipulate applications in it. You can expand the folder directly by clicking in the lower right corner or in the blank space.

Most of the long-press callout menu is the same as before. Some of the adapted apps will display the service card option. Many third-party apps in the public test phase have not completed this function yet.
