On July 31, 2018, the “China Hangzhou Cloud Innovation Conference 2018” hosted by Hangzhou Municipal Government, CDI and netease was held in Hangzhou International Expo Center as scheduled. In the cloud computing session in the afternoon, netease Cloud invited new and old customers from various industries to in-depth discuss the exploration and practice of cloud computing enabling enterprises’ digital innovation.

Chen E, deputy General manager of netease Cloud, said, “IT has been upgraded from a cost center to an innovation center, and the empowerment of digital technology has evolved from infrastructure to advanced technical architecture and process methods. Netease Cloud has been taking the idea of an automated software factory to help customers improve their IT innovation ability from the very beginning.” According to statistics, netease Cloud can help customers improve iteration capacity up to 100 times and save 2,000 man-days for customer operation and maintenance in a month. As the leading container cloud service in China, netease Cloud is one of the first in the world to pass Kubernetes Consistency certification and Kubernetes& Trusted Cloud dual certification. It is also the earliest Severless container service provider in China, with stable operation of more than 1,000 days, greatly reducing the cost of using containers for customers.
Netease Cloud is also constantly exploring the latest products to enable digital innovation of enterprises. In Chen’s opinion, the rise of micro-services on the one hand solves the problem of vertical separation of services, and on the other hand, solves the problem of collaboration among nodes of service architecture through decentralization, making the whole service-oriented collaboration move forward at a high speed.

With the development of business, Koala Trading Center had to start the transformation of micro-services in 2016, mainly focusing on three aspects of servitization, order search and migration of distributed database.
At present, Netease Kaola has split out more than 400 services, and the number of iterations has increased from 1-2 times a day to more than 1,000 times. Fine-grained resolution effectively controls the scope of software defects, greatly reduces online quality problems caused by software defects, and improves the overall software quality by 52%.
The birth of “Light Boat”, a complete micro-service solution in the industry, is based on netease cloud’s years of practice in serving internal and external customers. Just as Chen Jie said: “We hope that all the tools that customers need in the process of micro-service practice can be found in this solution, which has been verified online by Internet enterprises for a long time and covers the whole tool chain of development, testing, operation and maintenance. Meanwhile, Light Boat Micro service is based on Spring Cloud, Dubbo/gRPC, Kubernetes, NetflixOSS, OpenTracing, Prometheus and other open source technology stacks of netease Cloud. Customers do not need to worry about binding with vendors. Netease Cloud also has source-level control over these open source stacks, which are based on open source but stronger than open source.”

For the problems that micro-services may bring, “Light boat” products have been considered a lot at the beginning of design. Liu Chao, chief architect of netease Cloud solutions, introduced the design concept of light Boat micro-service products and its underlying technical architecture in detail. According to Liu Chao, netease Cloud conducted a lot of research at the beginning of the design of Light Boat products, and found that in the process of micro-service practice, service discovery is easy to fix, but not easy to replace; Service governance is a challenge, especially when it comes to fusing, limiting, and degrading policies, but it is relatively easy to switch. Therefore, one of the basic principles of light boat product design is to decouple container platform and microservices, and decouple service discovery and service governance at the same time.

The industry has been exploring DevOps for a long time, even before the birth of containers. Wang Aoyu, founder and CEO of Harmoncloud Technology, believes that DevOps is the best application scenario for container landing, and accordingly, container cloud platform is also the best way to realize DevOps. The main reason lies in the lightweight and standardized packaging characteristics of the container, which greatly improves the success rate of continuous integration and continuous delivery. Kubernetes also makes the integration of the tool chain more convenient. In 2017, Harmonic Cloud and netease Cloud jointly established the DevOps Lab to jointly promote the development and application of containers and DevOps tool chains.
